Basket's Build

They sound really good, a little uneven with the stock front speakers but it's nice to have music on the highway.

There is a bit of a whine coming out of them, it seems to be dependent on HVAC and RPM. Max HVAC fan and low RPM on the trail, no whine. High RPM on the highway, and it goes up/down with the HVAC fan. Doesn't go away completely with the HVAC off. I'm thinking it might be the ground?

I'd ask some of the more knowledgeable stereo folks.

Spent all night putting the soft top on for the zipper to just break so that's fun

Check the grounds to the blower motor. If you are using an amp if you ground the radio and amp to the same spot that may help. If you have an amp with rca cables make sure they are not run with the power wires as this can induce noise. You can also try a filter most stereo shops or Best Buy should carry them. Install that in the power or ignition wire to the radio.

Yep I am pretty mad about it. Would have been a lot of fun in Moab. I might try to see if I can pull the zipper past that tomorrow but I doubt it'll work with how tight the top is
Let it sit out in the sun for 3-4 hours before you try and also get a bar of soap and rub it on the zipper as it sort of lubes it. So you might luck out and get it past that area. I know you're driving down there but I use to run my top without any windows in it or my safari top and then for cold days have the door windows installed. Do you by chance have a Windjammer? Have that and you top on without windows and you've sealed off the cab more or less.

Yeah I'll have to try leaving it in the sun on the driveway. It seems like it would just pull the zipper back open from there but worth a shot. I was thinking I might put an electric heater inside the jeep too to really get things warmed up. Good idea with the soap. I don't have a windjammer unfortunately... I wonder how bad it would be if I tried going with it unzipped, there is Velcro there too

I'd put the top on and hit a freeway and drive it for 30+ minutes and see how it does. With the velcro there it might seal up and not cause a problem. The soap is an old trick from my CJ days.

Yeah, worth a shot. My friend will be coming by Friday to put the hard top back on if I need it so gives me time... Just another thing to do lol my list of shit to do before leaving keeps getting longer not shorter! Fingers crossed it holds up decent with the velcro.

Back to the impact driver, if your ever installing a deck / ever driving screws into wood it’s an awesome tool. The 3/8 hex adapters work well to zip off lugs if you break the bolts free first, I’ve found name brand adapters work better than HF. Buy a few at a time, they will eventually twist/break.

Same with going back on, just need to torque them to spec before you drive off.

A true impact wrench is your best friend though, I’d personally stick with your existing tool brand when you buy one.

No amp installed yet. I still have yet to check grounds, I'm worried I won't find time before heading to moab. I did not know filters for noise existed... so that's good to know. If I can't figure it out with the ground it's worth checking out. I used a T-tap to tap into the ground strap from the previous radio, I do wonder if that isn't adequate. Unfortunately I never used the original radio much so I don't know if it was buzzing or not

Cool well I do want to get better at woodworking so I can build things... like a better garage table and maybe a chuck-box of kinds for camping. Will help to have the correct tools.

Yeah I'll get one eventually probably, especially since I have the batteries and stuff for a decent brand. We'll see when it feels worth the money...

So... do the windows get easier to replace after it's been on for a while? I was excited to run no side windows but if it's always going to be that hard to get them back on I'm not sure how bad I want to do that now

I had a zipper issue on my Rampage this morning as well. Putting the top on for the trip out to Moab, I pulled down the passenger side rear window zipper and pulled it right off the end.... %&^&@. Turns out the little plastic piece at the bottom of the zipper which keeps that from happening broke off. So, I pulled out my canvass sewing kit and sewed in a stop to replace the plastic piece. Good as new.
