Anyone into knives?

Ebay does not allow the sale of authentic trench knives for some reason, only chinese copies.

This one popped up early AM for cheap with awful photos. I took a chance on it, it was way more rough than anticipated (the blade that is currently with the handle did not come with it).

Risks we take I guess. I’m probably $50-100 in the negative on it.

This looks like a knife, but I wouldn't consider this a knife due to the Geneva Convention & all. Dull as fuck as it should "legally" be. Would much rather be shot by whatever than stuck by this 11" or 16" version.

Would love to know where this has been in its life since 1942 through the late 60s.

This is my fathers late 60s Marine issued bayonet. When I was a kid I just saw this as stuff. I didn't get it. I didn't respect his stuff.

In high school I drove a forklift after hours for really good money. I spent all that money on my sub 12 second bug. Teenage boys are super retarded, and I did some super dumb shit in Carmel Ca. and got caught. I was a minor out past curfew and went to jail. Car got impounded, and PD found the bayonet in my car and seized it to be destroyed because they considered it a "dagger".

Around midnight my dad drove an hour to get my dumb ass and the stupid car. And another hour the next week to tell Carmel PD he was getting his bayonet back. This was the moment I started to get his teenage experience.

The car unfortunately came to an end due to a red light runner 1991ish in Phoenix. But I still have this thing.

I just joined and love knives. In the past I carried Benchmade because growing up that is what my father carried while in the military and they always worked well for him. However, recently I have started using Doug Ritter RSK with magnacut steel. I have to say so far it's one of my favorite carry knives I have owned.

I really like CRK I personally don't own any my father has a couple though. I am so worried I will lose a $500 knife walking around the woods or while fishing or something. I just have that sort of luck, they are worth the money though so well put together and smooth.

I find the more something costs, the better I pay attention!!.

Oddly enough, I have lost a couple of flashlights on the job. Thats precisely the reason my work flashlight is $50. It rides opposite of my knife, front left pocket. I guess by not losing a knife im able to justify continuing to carry it after losing other edc.

Hear me out, I had my knife in my pocket and my jeep is in the pic!!

While on a trip to run the Rubicon, I decided to stop by Carson City for a reunion. What Im about to share is highly inflammatory and very controversial in some circles.

I like things, all kinds of things. Long story short, I had a gentleman carve up an 1882 Carson City Morgan dollar. I typically have this coin on me. I thought it appropriate to return the coin to its birthplace, 143yrs later! While snapping a couple pics outside, my friend that was with me checked the schedule of the former Carson City mint, now a museum, and discovered that they were stamping out medallions with the mint!! What are the odds the mint is running when I happen to be passing through!!

There were actually 4 different minting machines. Machine 1 is the only machine in existence today. I have no choice but to assume that this MUST BE the machine that minted my coin .

Full disclosure, I don't hunt so there's very high likelihood of this information not having much relevance to this conversation. I'm also brand loyal, now that we've got all that out of the way.



If I were to select a folder for hunting it would likely be the Umnumzaan. The scales are made from 6AL4V Ti. The knife uses a frame lock design to prevent unexpected closing. Iirc Chris Reeve designed the frame lock. It runs on washers with a more than adequate pivot. Blade steel is S30 for the early builds and transitioned to S35, S45 and now magnacut. Chris Reeve also worked with Crucible in designing the S35/45 blade steel. What makes the blade unique is its "harpoon" tip.



Scales are approx 5in long
Blade is approx 3.5in from tip to thumbstub with a cut edge approx 3.75in.

This zaan was built Oct2014 with S35VN blade steel. It is one that I daily.

A few of my most used:

BLF/Sofrin lanterns: Both have USB C built in charging, the big one runs on 4x18650 and the small one on 1x21700. Orange one is great travel night light with the kids and the Black will run for days during a power outage.

Throwers, when I need to see what’s WAY over there, a 21700 & a 18650. The 18650 is a Convoy and Simon is another great person to work with.

These are my most used & the Hank Lights:

Left most is the Emmisar KR4 my jeep/camping light since it has the tail cap trit & the fully attached belt clip
2nd from left is my goto D4v2 with the dual channel and aux lights
Two on the left are the mini version of the D4v2 running on 14500s far right one is right angle, use every night for dog walking, the top up one is the one that sits in my office bag every day.

For those who don't know, and even fewer who care, this is why the numbering system is the way that it is on batteries. The first two numbers are in millimeters they are the diameter of the battery. The last two to three digits are in tenths of a millimeter and they are the height of the battery.

2032 button battery is 20mm diameter and 3.2mm tall
18650 is 18mm diameter and 650 tenths of a mm, or 65mm tall

Trits are a danger, I didnt know they were a thing until I began collecting lights. Didn't take long and was shipping them from halfway around the world, buying the special adhesive, UV light and installing them! There are customs that are "trit'd out" with a few hundred dollars of tiny magical glowing sticks .
