Anyone have experience working on E250s?

If it is the seal and you do it yourself, you will need a removal tool like the hooky thing on the left, and a driver that fits the new seal like the blue thing on the right. And pack the back side of the new seal with your grease of choice before installing 😁

so we got the tranny out and the first seal you come across, (I assume the torque converter seal) now how do I get to the front pump seal??

Is the pump seal leaking? It's usually the converter hub seal that leaks. The pump seal is more of a gasket that you install before bolting the pump in place.

we don't know what is leaking, the torque converter seal doesn't LOOK like it was leaking, no divots, bends etc, I just want to know WHERE the pump seal is, I keep finding conflicting results online, and the "pump seal" that the auto parts store sold me looks ALMOST identical to the torque converter seal they sold me

The pump seal kit comes with the big pump oring and the hub seal, the 2 parts you got might be the same thing. I know some people put silicone on the seal before seating it but I don't know if that's correct. Hopefully @CMBD will be by shortly

When you get ready to put the transmission back in do yourself a big favor and install the TC first. Stand the unit up on it's tail and drop the TC in and rotate it till you feel it fully drop into the pump. Keep rotating and make sure it's fully in, then put the transmission back in the van being careful not to let the TQ slip forward. If you try and engage the pump with the transmission in the van and don't get it right you will be pulling it back out and buying hard parts.

The seal that could be your leak is the lip seal on the front of the pump. It can look ok but be worn out. How does the seal surface on the converter look?

There is no visible trail of oil? With as much oil that was running out my guess would be that seal. I have never seen a converter drain plug leak, but make sure its tight. And unless the pump bolts are loose, the pump o ring and gasket are not going to fail.

Those TCs aren't hard to install with the trans horizontal. When you put the trans back in, with the trans installed you should have a small gap between the flex plate and the torque converter face. With the trans bolted to the engine you should be able to move the TC towards and away from the flex plate a small amount, and be able to wiggle the converter studs in the mounting holes.

On the 4R100 I got advice to stand the tranny up on end because the center support was a weak point and would cause a sag when horizontal making it difficult to slide the TC in. Do you know if that is true or not, and if it's the same on a worn in 4R70?

I have never heard of that. The stator support is pretty beefy by its self, and has the input shaft running through it as well.

99.9% of the time I installed converters with the trans horizontal unless I was having a problem getting it all the way in.
