I've also watched semi's split lanes and stack the lanes and slow down so no one could jet past the open lane traffic.
No thanks...

It mostly happens when coming up on a lane closure with everybody that CAN'T READ running right up to where the barrels start because their time is worth more than yours ! THEY IS MORE IMPOTENT THAN YOU ARE !
yea thats great in writing, but 5% will actually do it !
When you are driving and come to a construction zone that requires traffic to merge out of a lane, what do you do?
I usually merge into the first available open space. Frankly, it’s always bothered me when people speed down the soon-to-be-closed lane despite the signage, then merge at the last possible minute. That just doesn’t seem… egalitarian. It kinda feels like I’m being taken advantage of.
But I learned today that there’s a better way. Traffic experts say the best strategy when traffic is backing up is something called a “zipper merge” — fill up all available space in both lanes, then take turns letting vehicles from the closing lane in, kinda like teeth on a zipper. It may seem rude, but supposedly it will reduce back-ups by as much as 40 percent!
I do it every time that's why you bitch when I pass you.
If the concept sounds foreign to you, there is plenty of guidance on the Internet. Study the illustration, from the Texas Department of Transportation (http://txdotsanantonio.blogspot.com/2016/10/is-zipper-merge-rude.html ).

people here dont understand the concept of merging !
The problem is people who speed up to try to pass as many people as they can and try to force their way into where someone else already waited their turn and used the "now FAILED" zipper merge technique.
Personal experience:
I have traveled I-90 in Montana many times through their construction zones and when traffic is at higher volumes. There is plenty of room for people to merge before the forced merge so they maintain their current speed and do so well in advance without ever dropping their speed. Then some fucking self emportant asshole speeds up 10 to 20 mph faster to pass everyone they possibly can, then everyone they passed has to slam on their brakes when asshole forces their way over into the open lane!
