Airbag Control Module Not Responding

Hi all- I have a new-to-me 1998 that my parents have had since it was new. After a frame break and sitting for about a decade, they had the frame (among other things) replaced and eventually it ended up with me. I’ve cleared up a lot of the problems, but the airbag light remains on. My code reader isn’t getting a response from it when I switch it to SRS, and I’ve taken it to a shop where presumably they’re not getting a response, so they’ve told me the airbag control module has failed and needs replaced.

I don’t have a problem ordering one and replacing it, but the guy who switched everything over is not the best mechanic- half the bolts are loose or missing and I’ve plugged in a bunch of things he forgot. It seems to me like it’s plugged in in the back, and I can’t find any obvious places where there’s any kind of break in the wiring until it disappears into places.

It doesn’t seem like they fail very often, so I’m wondering if there’s anything anyone here knows of that would cause it not to respond to the reader? I’d assume it isn’t anything with the clock spring or the airbag itself since the module isn’t responding at all.

Any thoughts on things to check?
