I searched several forums before I asked this question - but has anyone replaced their stock TJ steering column with an aftermarket one, like a Flaming River etc.? I am working on the details of installing a CJ style flat dash, and just can't get over how out of place the stock steering wheel and column will be. I could just keep the stock steering column and top it with a Grant wheel or something similar, but the square profile of the column cover looks off with an aftermarket wheel too.
Would it just be a matter of measuring and matching up the existing wiring? Am I thinking this will be overly simple? Could I even just take a steering column from a YJ and use that? I've got a 97 with the AX5 and 4cl so it's as close to a YJ as you can get already.
