That title makes sense...sorry for the shop issues. I really thought you had this one nailed.
When it comes to shops, I'm weary of two things.
1) If they have a big parking lot full of Jeeps
2) If they can schedule you an appointment within 1 week of you requesting one.
The shop I'm taking my Jeep to for the frame swap generally has a 6 - 8 week lead time for work. At the same time, the only vehicles they have sitting around in their small parking lot are long term projects (AKA "give it back to me in the spring") . They don't have enough space to have projects lying around for no reason. I think their ability to get things done in a timely matter is really what sets them apart from other shops. It's too bad Dave isn't able to correctly schedule out his time and space, because it sounds like he is really knowledgable when it comes to Jeeps.

I guess it just goes to show that it really is hard to find good automotive related businesses these days.
This should have been the biggest red flag to me, honestly.
Their parking lot is FULL of Jeeps, literally. After speaking with Chris (the owner), he said that a lot of those Jeeps have been sitting there for 6 months plus, and some have even been there for over a year.
He doesn't want them there, and he didn't even want to take them in without scheduling them... someone else just happened to take on some "side jobs".
Next time I won't make that mistake, as I know what it means now. When that many Jeeps are sitting around, it means that someone is very bad at scheduling things, and that things aren't getting done at a good pace.
The new shops who have been quoting me have at least been honest. One of them told me it would take 2-3 weeks to get me in, and it would take up to 7 days to finish the job.
I'll hazard a guess that we won't be seeing him around here anytime soon. That's unfortunate.
Well, at least on the bright side you get to drive your jeep while you wait for Savvy goodness. The V8/trany swap may very well solve a lot of the vibe issue if it is truly a result of your 42rle OD.
I don't think he really came on here much to begin with. Every so often, but not very much. He spends most of his time on Facebook these days.
And again, I have nothin but respect for the guy, I just think he needs someone else running his business for him so he can focus on what he does best. I'd tell that to his face too, as I don't mean it in a disrespectful way.
The V8 would solve every vibration issue, that's for sure, haha. I think maybe the I6 and 42RLE are just inherently unbalanced to begin with. You just don't really notice it until you stat modifying it.
so wait, who owns jeep west? Dave or Chris?? The basic "peter" principal will eventually take over. You rise to the level of incompetence then no further growth...or if they already exceeded that, it will lower itself to a level they can handle. You are already proving this by pulling the jeep.
I have been fortunate enough to have a wife who is usually the one reminding me that I don't do any of these things, so it's fine with her if I spend money on my toys. I usually feel guilty when I'm spending money on myself, and she hates that I'm that way. I feel blessed that she has that kind of attitude about it all.
Lucky you! My wife is the opposite. She hates that I spend money on my Jeep. She just doesn't get it, which I guess is fine, because I also don't get why she wants to watch "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette".

I'll tell my full story later when I get my jeep back. It's really been an ordeal so far, but finally I am seeing some progress with the owner calling me today and promising to making mine a priority. Atleast I got to do some deep research that will hopefully go somewhere.

I hope some of these theories work out. Honestly, if we could solve this vibration issue, I'd probably just keep my 4.0 and put a supercharger on it instead. The vibrations just drive me mad... I don't know how some people live with them!

Unpopular opinion, what if your guys vibes issues aren’t linked? You have it back in your possession now, I’d try some steps and see what you can do starting from the basics. It could be something simple in your case and you haven’t really had a chance to investigate.

Yes. This isn't rocket science, so I'm confident a solution can be had. It's just that no one (until now) has put much effort into researching it or actually solving it. It's refreshing to know that we may be on the verge of something big... at least in the world of Jeeps!
I'm picking it up on Saturday since I'll be up that way anyways. Trust me, once I get it back, I intend to investigate on my own! They may not be related, but I have a feeling they are, only because my vibrations weren't there until the re-gear.
Exactly! I feel like most people exhausted all the easy options and instead give up and live with it, or move on to a different vehicle. Looks like being stubborn and madly in love with the TJ might pay off in the end!
