Was wondering if anyone knows what material the center vents on the Jeep are made of?

I am going through the somewhat painful process of measuring and developing an "OEM" replacement with the 3D printer, planning to use ABS at this point but wanted to check if anyone knows what the original is made of.

I'll take two, when they are ready.

Otherwise, I am no help. :)

Haha no problem once I get them done and kinks worked out.

The only other print I could find didn't really fit well so I got the dial calipers out and CAD and started getting after it. to be honest those two parts in the pic were the hardest, the rest is a gear and some baffles. Shouldn't be too long to have it wrapped up.

Ill start with ABS or ASA since I have some and go from there.

I saw somewhere someone already went through the headache and made his file available for free. I applaud you but try the Google machine.

I believe thats the one I tried already. Attached a pic of the one google pops up, its actually referenced on the 3D print sticky thread here too. It didn't want to stay in and the slider knob likes to fall out and not stay engaged with the gear on the baffle, I think mainly the gear mechanism on that design is too small.

That's what got me designing a new one that matches the OEM.

I would think that most of us could forgo an adjustable vent. Maybe just pivot up and down. Make it a little easier.

Well got through with the initial design. OEM is black, prototype is the white one.

So far fit looks ok, snaps in good to the dash piece, rotates up and down and stops pretty much where the factory one does. Looks like I got a slight rigidity issue with the inner frame, baffle hinge pin fit isn’t quite right so will adjust that some.

On to testing, hopefully the PLA holds up long enough to see if this is going to work lol.

I should move this post to the 3d print thread.

Says the guy who lives in Oregon! Here in the desert I need all my vents pointing right at me!
