After a 2 hr trail, I was getting on the highway (in a hurry) today shifting around 3200-3500 in each gear, then setting cruise at 65 mph. After a few seconds the RPMs quickly rose up and back down about 700 rpm, accompanied by a slight shake at that speed. I slowed to 60 mph and the issue stopped. After parking for lunch, driving at 65 mph without issue or shaking.

Is this clutch slippage? Did I drive too hard? Should I be worried?

It sounds like you might be experiencing a slipping torque converter or potentially an issue with the transmission (especially if the RPMs spiked without an increase in speed). While it's possible that hard acceleration could contribute to some clutch slippage, particularly if the transmission is getting worn or if there's an issue with the fluid, it doesn't sound like a huge concern right now since it seems to have resolved after slowing down.

Check the transmission fluid level and and see how the condition of the fluid looks. If it's low, dirty, or burnt-smelling, that could definitely cause issues.

If you keep having the same issue, pay attention to how the transmission shifts. If it starts slipping again or if you notice any unusual noises or delayed engagement, it might be worth looking into.

Just keep an eye on it for now.

Flaring happens sometimes, if it goes away then I wouldn’t sweat it too much. It just means that that either a servo or clutch pack was slow to apply/unapply. Lots of things can cause it, but I would check fluid level & condition of fluid first.
