I wonder what the power/torque curves look like, and how deeps those gears are to make it work. I imagine it needs to spin up into the RPMs to make what it needs. It really looks like something that should have been LS or 4BT/big Kubota if it just had to be diesel.

You'd need to ask Nate from Dirt Lifestyle about the TDi and if it'll have enough eumph to handle this or not.

They had me hooked till they mentioned the smutty bilt winch.....that was the deal breaker for me, oh well saved my money...... 🤣 🤣 🤣

Yep, I've never understood that... Spent all that money on your build and then cheap out

I would be most interested in a TDI swap. Nate had good things to say about it tho it seemed to give him issues often, the programming or random stuff.

How many does you long-ass motorhome have? I'm guessing 2

Actually it's only got one...

My only experience with the TDI was the one in my ex's car. But Yes Nate & other guys seem to like them. They had become really popular in the Zuk world about the time I sold mine. It seemed like a cool idea for a light rig like that. But I do wonder how well it'd do in a heavier rig like this. That is a lot of tire to be turning. And then the NSG370 doesn't have a great track record either.

Running way off into the weeds here

He was probably having to push it hard to make enough power, thus making it unreliable. I'm not very familiar with that platform, but from my quick research that little engine makes a power curve like below, and tops out around 220 hp "built". The graph below is of a "tuned with bolt-ons" engine. A fully built one is probably pushing a little over 400 lbs of torque, but at full-tilt, it takes a lot to make any engine last like that.

For comparison here's a mild cam swapped junkyard 5.3 LS graph making the same torque, way more power, and it's able to do it reliably.

You just had to mention that nasty two letters didn't you?? Here I was agreeing & enjoying what you'd wrote and then BOOM... nasty nasty... LS shit..

As long as that thing looks, that's actually surprising.

It's only 35' long... I've seen some with 2 but never more than that.

I've owned one rig that had a carrier bearing setup on the front driveline. And it was like in this situation where it was used to get around something.
