Hey all,
So backstory , had a clock spring go bad a few years ago. Had it changed and really haven't drove the jeep much but there was always a bit of a looseness to the wheel. Finally got sick of it when out for a early spring drive. Took it all apart and the bolt was not the OEM one and wouldn't actually torq down So the wheel was loose. I ordered an m10-1.5x35 bolt and fingers crossed they didn't F up the threads inside the column.
If so, can I clean the threads with a tap inside the column? Any solid input is appreciated

So barring this, I'm going to replace the clockspring as it has been wobbling around too from the looks of it and I've got it all apart. Is the 04-06 clockspring interchangeable with the 03? The part numbers sometimes say for 03-06 but elsewhere there is a single part number for 03.
Any advise on this is appreciated too!

Thanks in advance

The clock spring is NOT directly interchangeable with the 2004-2006 models due to wiring and connector differences.
If I am mistaken the 2003 TJ clock spring = 56047186AB (or latest superseded part)
2004-2006 TJ clock spring = 56047184AD (or latest superseded part)

If you install a 2004-2006 clock spring in a 2003, the airbag, horn, or cruise control may not function properly. But it is 5 a.m. so please double check my info lol.

Thanks Aaron. I think the 2003 shows as AA for the last digits at least for the one clockspring manufacturer left (Crown). Looks like I'll be getting the 03 specific one from Summit. I had wanted to pick up one from "clockspringexperts" as they seem to have a great customer service on properly rebuilt clocksprings but they don't have 03 ones.

Leave it to Jeep to make changes like that and leave one model year to be uniquely different From the earlier models and the 04-06 models.

Another thing to consider is a WJ steering column swap...

Snap a picture so we can see what damage you are working with. Im trying to figure where a M10x 1.5 bolt would go under the wheel. The only place i can think of are the 2 holes in the wheel frame used to remove the wheel, if using a puller and they do nothing to secure the wheel to the shaft.

So the 2003 to 2006 is went to a drilled and tapped shaft which uses a bolt instead of the externally threaded shaft with a nut that holds the steering wheel on like the 2002 and earlier have

I was able to get the bolt that I need from advance Auto today so I'm going to try to see if it works and if not I will snap some pictures to get some additional advice from everyone here
