So, today I discovered that the "exact fit" parts for replacement CATs on pretty much every vendor's site don't fit my TJ.
Every replacement part offers essentially a two piece replacement: the pre-CATs and the single post CAT before the muffler. My stock exhaust is all one-piece pre and post CATs. I figured, "well, ok... maybe they only offer two piece replacements now", so I purchased both thinking they'd mate up and fit.
Nope. The entire assembly is too short to mate up to the rear hanger off the trans-mount, and the angle of the hanger off the rear CAT is the opposite direction.
After researching a bit more it looks like an "exact fit" for the 2004 on RockAuto (https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...1,exhaust+&+emission,catalytic+converter,5808) is what might actually fit.
