Car is a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0 manual UK spec - soft top (no central locking)

It's owned by a friend - it's her deceased brothers car, and we cant find the immobiliser keys for it anywhere.
I'm helping out, since she's useless with cars!

We have a "bare" key, so we can get in, turn the ignition on etc, but not release the immobiliser.
The car will start, run for 3-4 seconds and then dies, with the immo lamp illuminated on the dash.

My understanding is this - we can either...

1. Take the car to Jeep main dealer and they can cut 2 new keys and program the SKIM/PCM for us.,
2. Get the PCM and SKIM modules to an ECU specialist to have the Immobiliser removed.

Anyone got any ideas of the possible cost of these 2 options?
(Anyone recommend an ECU specialist?)

Is there another option I don't know about?

TIA,

Mike.

It is my understanding that the UK Jeep TJ Immobilizer system is a different manufacturer than the US Immobilizer.
Not sure what the shop rates are in the UK, but the since you do not have any of the Grey keys with chip inside; the dealership will need to find out what the 4 digit code is for programming the SKIM (UK version?) module and keys.
In the US the programming procedure at the dealership will cost $350+.
Contact @Wranglerfix who is our resident ECU expert to see if he can assist you resolving your problem.
Another good source of information for resolving Immobilizer problems is @mrblaine

Heyy my step-dad has similar problem. He is in Germany and has a US spec jeep. Now his fobs won't work anymore and he said from his research they don't make them anymore anywhere? So he is trying to turn the immobilizer off to go around that.

Any tips on that? Or maybe he can get new fobs programmed?

Try a reset it that worked on my 1998 UK model TJ. A friend of mine did this and it worked.
Remove keu
Put key in, turn on ignition for 10 seconds
Turn off and remove key for 30 sevonds
Put key in and turn on ignition for 1( seconds
The. Off remove key for 30 seconds
Put key back and try to start.
If it has reset. the key X light will have gone out and the immobilized warning light will be flashing again.
