06 TJ.
When removing ignition key it can be rotated back to the accessory position and removed from the ignition cylinder which leaves the accessory circuit hot. This runs the battery down.
Is this caused by wear in the ignition cylinder or the ignition lock switch?

Original key is worn well, tried having a new key cut but didn’t hold in cylinder any better

On my 97 I ordered a new cylinder and three door locks from Wolf Security. Came with a couple of keys and the price was very reasonable.

I don't know if a key cut from the worn key will work. I always keep an unused spare key. When a key gets worn, I check the cylinder with the unused one. On both the YJ and TJ, I've worn out a key, but not the cylinder yet. And I cut a new key to use from the unused spare.

I think a locksmith can cut a new key from the actual key code, but that may be as expensive as a new cylinder.

i had a cylinder worn bad enough on my 99 TJ that the key from my 00 Chevy Silverado would fit in and start the Jeep. With the new cylinder the GM key wouldn't even fit into the slot.

I'm having a problem that may also be related to the key cylinder on my 2003 TJ. Maybe someone here can help me confirm before I start replacing parts unnecessarily.

My key does not appear to be worn. However, I can remove the key when it's in the Off position whereas you'd normally have to press the black ignition lock button and turn the key back to the Off-Lock position to remove it. I'm not able to turn the ignition to the accessory position at all and the steering wheel is never locked as I would expect it to be. Is this a sign of a worn cylinder? Naively thinking it was the ignitions switch itself, I replaced it. That obviously did nothing for me...

Related or not, I have no alarm/buzzer to tell me I've left the headlights on. My dome lights are working so I don't think it's a matter of a missing fuse.

HI Zaklee, did you figure out your problem? I seem to have the same issue. Ican remove and insert the key in the the position right before the engine runs, but I cannot turn it back to the normal OFF position, or the accessory position. I have a 2006 TJ, and I don't have an ignition lock button. I put in a new cylinder, but that did not help. In fact, it is worse because that lock does not allow me to remove the key. So, If you have solved your problem, could you let me know? Thanks.
