The u joint on my lower steering shaft have a ton of play in them and are causing the car to wander on the road. I’m looking to replace the lower shaft but it seems borgeson is the only one that makes the shaft. Is it worth it to buy this shaft? The jeep also has high miles and it doesn’t leak but I’m not sure if the steering box is shot either. I was wondering if it maybe makes more sense to switch to the earlier box and shaft and just replace everything. Any advice is appreciated.

To switch to the earlier box, you have to drill out one of the frame mounting holes and weld a new bung because the steering box holes between the 02 and 03 do not line up. Your best option is to go to a PSC box which requires you to switch over to the 97-02 style shaft or the Boregson lower shaft. This switch will cost you about $1500 after shipping, taxes and fluids.
