Hey all,
I've read through the forum and other sites and want to get some input.
I've got a dead spot in my steering when moving but not when the jeep is sitting still. It's present from straight ahead and to the left from about 12 o'clock to maybe 10 o'clock with some minor steering happening and then I feel the wheels start to move past that point. It's fine when turning right.
It will move the tires with no real effort when running and sitting still. The dead spot seems to exist only when driving.
I can move the shaft by hand but it looks like there is movement at the gear box spline and the steering wheel also wiggles back and forth. Haven't had anyone available to hold the wheel so I can check shaft movement

I'm thinking it's steering shaft related but wanted to get input here.

Going to order a used lower from eBay and get a crown upper and hopefully it fixes it.
Details:
2003 with 35" tires
3" jks springs, currie short arms, jks track bar, zj upgrade tie rods, ball joints are in good shape, steering gear was replaced with one from Detroit axle.

Dry steering test,check toe,check caster

It's not wander, so it's not toe or caster.
It's literally a dead spot in the steering wheel to the left but only while moving. Dry test has the tires moving with very little effort. Rest of the steering /suspension is tight and solid.

If you do a dry steering test correctly you would know if your steering shaft had slop. I suspect your garbage Chinese steering box combined with an alignment issue and or loose parts
