So i have found an LJ hardtop i will be purchasing in the next week for my 06 LJ Rubicon. While looking in the back of my LJ i noticed there is no connector for the wiper and no fluid hose. I'd assume this being a Rubicon it would have had those options.
Looking at these images of my jeep you can see i have both the rear defroster center console button and rear washer controls. Looking under the hood i don't see any washer fluid hose that goes through the firewall that would route to the rear of the jeep. I only see a washer fluid hose going to the front wipers.

I also removed a section of tape around the wiring harness that runs to the drivers side rear of my LJ thinking someone just wrapped the hose and connector up but they're missing. What am I missing? You can see the images of what wiring harness is there.

In the last photo i am showing you the rubber grommet area directly below the brake booster. Its my understanding that this is where there should be the fluid washer line running through the firewall making its way to back of the jeep.

If my Rubicon isn't/wasn't equipped with the rear hard top wiring then i'm stumped as to why i have the rear defrost and washer controls in the center console.

And if it matters when the jeep is running and press either of the two switches (rear defrost and rear washer) nothing happens. Meaning no switch illumination at all but that might be because there is no active connection to the currently non-existent hard top.

I'm stumped.

You can go here, enter your VIN, and get a build sheet. See if it was optioned with a hard top, idk Rubicons well enough to know if they all came provisioned for one tbh

Mine came with the Dual Top option. I’m stumped.

I was wondering if maybe someone halfway started adding hardtop stuff? Since you can't find any of the wiring sounds like some PO might have decided they wouldn't ever want to run a hard top again... Maybe you could get them pretty cheap from a jeep wrecker like Davey's?

Hmm I actually have a pic of this from my 97.

It looks like it's a separate harness on mine at least. Maybe you could see if it got shoved back through the grommet and hidden in the fender area somewhere?

Wait. You're saying the hardtop harness comes up from below that grommet where the tail light is? Id assume it would run along the inside of the tub.

I kinda thought so too but that looks like it comes out of that grommet in that pic? Sorry I just randomly remembered I took that pic recently - I wasn't actually tracing the wires. Worth a check, at least

That harness in your photo looks a lot like the one in my '05 LJR... that looks like a lot of conductors for a TJ with no hard top, doesn't it? Any chance the plug is pushed through that grommet in the rear of the tub? It wouldn't explain the lack of a hose, but... have a look, if you haven't already.

I found the answer. My jeep came equipped with soft top only. I'm guessing someone put the center console switches in at some point in the past but never got them working. So no hardtop wiring harness for me. And at this point i'm just going to rain-x the rear glass and call it good. I don't want to tear into the oem harness to retrofit just to have a rear wiper and defroster. If i lived up north where it was cold in the winter maybe i'd consider it but in Texas its either hot or kinda hot. LOL

How'd you end up figuring that out?

I called Collins Bros here in Texas and they looked up my VIN in a real database and found the info. Those online VIN check sites aren't always accurate. I also looked at the Factory Service Manual to cross check the wiring harness. It was possible to order a Rubicon with just a soft top and not get the hard top wiring harness. Who knew.

Nice. Good sleuth work. Weird to add the buttons and then give up.

FYI - Wiring one the correct way takes finding a donor LJ that had the hardtop option and removing the wiring harness and then pulling the wires needed for the hardtop. I have done it on two of the three Jeeps I’ve owned. I will admit it is time consuming and requires attention to detail as well as knowing how to read the electrical schematics for all the connectors and fuse box. To be very transparent, I can replace a heater core and recharge the A/C system faster than adding a factory hardtop wiring harness. A couple of photos of to show what your in for should you decide to tackle it. Yes this particular Rubicon I completed this on last year was built for the Soft Top only so it was not pre wired.

Not if you bought the switches *before* ending up on this forum and discovering what a b*tch it is too re-wire it! That's what I did, although I never installed the switches. I gave up until I found the Mopar add-on kit, and it's still a b*tch.

Yes, sir, it’s one of those deals that everybody loves the idea of having the full function and then when they realize the difficulty….they get Rain X

What most of us find out is you really rarely use the defroster, wiper or washer
