TDI swap do I need to change oil pan

So I’ve always mounted my engines with either a 7° or 10° tilt to be similar to what Volkswagen did, but I know several people that mount their engines at 0° tilt without any issues. If anything you can jack up on side of your Jeep to help drain the rest of the fluid. -Grant

Take Two: Building a CJAA TDI Turbo Diesel with an AW4/A340 Automatic (Left Hand Drive) 2005 TJ Wrangler

Hey TJers, In 2018 I started my journey of diesel swapping a 2006 Right Hand Drive TJ Wrangler. I’ve documented the entire build in this thread here: Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy) The long and short of it, I finally got it road legal, running with a BEW TDI and a...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Thank you @Wildman, I’m working on the new thread now with photos and more details though it’ll probably be later today before it gets posted. I’ve been reflecting on this build alot over the last several months and honestly I’m grateful for the RHD, I learned so much but I also get an...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Hey TJers, Well this is the end of the road for the Right Hand Drive TJ Wrangler. I had something let go in the BEW TDI Head and I have oil coming out of Cylinder #4 which caused me to step back and make several hard decisions on what I wanted to do moving forward. I haven’t talked about this...

Options for those who want overdrive on their TJ (42RLE vs AW4 vs ?)

I just got back from a work trip and I’m playing catch up on this thread but wanted to give my two cents on everything very quickly. The AW4 is a great cheap automatic and you can solve all the problems with it over heating by swapping in a later valve body out of a Toyota Tacoma A340...

North Carolina Fizdanza Performance Billet Steel 42lb FlyWheel for Jeep TJ Wrangler 4.0l

Yes much heavy than stock, I believe the stock flywheel is 28lbs. It's basically battery for engine momentum, so it does much better climbing hills in low range and really helps with preventing the engine from stalling as well. Here's the video that explains and demonstrates how it helps off...

North Carolina Fizdanza Performance Billet Steel 42lb FlyWheel for Jeep TJ Wrangler 4.0l

Hey TJers, I'm selling a Fizdanza Performance Billet Steel 42lb Flywheel for a 4.0l Jeep TJ Wrangler Manual transmission. I bought this years ago when I debated switching to a manual transmission after the Ford 6r80 didn't work well with my TDI engine but ended going with an AW4 instead. I...

North Carolina 42RLE with approximately 85K on the transmission

Hey TJers, I bought this as a back up for my RHD TJ before I started diesel swapping it and just found it buried in the back of my storage unit. I bought this in the spring on 2018 as a back up because I was debating doing the RubiCrawler setup from Advance Adapters with this transmission...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Yup exactly, the more I tear it down the worse it's looking, I actually made a MASSIVE mistake, I'm still investigating but I think I caused a majority of these issues and I'm not sure yet how I did it. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. I ordered a straight edge that was suppose to get...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Not sure honestly, I'm tearing down my BEW TDI now and I've already discovered that I have oil coming out of the exhaust port on cylinder #4 so something is not right Also the last time I tried driving it my water temps spiked to 240° so I'm not even sure if I'm fighting one issue or...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Hey TJers, Installing a resonator did wonders for further reducing how loud my BEW TDI swapped TJ Wrangler is when driving down the road. However, getting the resonator to fit and have all my exhaust components line up was a challenge that took longer than expected. One last note, I had to...

    Painting a black interior tan

I would actually recommend against it, if you want tan, find someone parting out their tan interior and swap it. I did all the prep work on mine, deep clean, air dry, sprayed it with the bonding agent or whatever it was called and then did multiple light coats with the actually spray, it scraps...

Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

The shorter belt looks like it's working much better. I will say when I had Hydroboost on my TJ, it was a pain to bleed. Glad I had it for my Kubota setup, but now that my TDI has it's own vacuum pump, I'm not upset to be back to a vacuum brake booster for my setup. That being said once the...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

That is such a great combination. I considered the NSG370 for a LONG time before I figured out the idling issues with my BEW TDI. That 0.84 overdrive in 6th gear is just fantastic for diesel engines. I don't even use 4th gear in my AW4 with it being 0.75, I just treat my AW4 as a computer...

WA isn't THAT far from NC :ROFLMAO: What's your engine/transmission setup on your TJ?

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

I've been trying to figure that one out myself, my best theory is the intercooler I was running had such a tightly packed core section that the engine had to work harder to maintain idle and cruising rpm. It's not much but it's the best theory I've got at the moment. The first intercooler I had...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

With an automatic, I would recommend a BEW or even better the CJAA Common Rail. The problem with the ALH is it doesn't want to idle low enough for the automatic torque converter, the BEW gets away with it because it's a PD Diesel instead of a traditional Injection Pump Diesel. The CJAA is the...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

It's the reason I wanted to do the swap. It's a ton of work and it will cost you more than you think. That being said if you go ALH with an AX-15 manual transmission, that is the most economical way of doing the swap. I've been stubborn as hell to get it working with an automatic. Also 25psi of...
