Opinion on an LJ

Uh, hell no. Keep looking. You have a pretty specific list so it may take a while. I'm thinking a finders fee of some fine liquor of the finders choice might be in your best interest :D Ya know, just trying to be helpful and all :D

Depending how expensive your taste in booze is, deal.

I love that you are going for it (the Jeep you really want). Well done.

Thanks! Just need to remind myself of that sometimes. I’m lucky because really I have time on my side, I don’t need an LJ right this second for any reason. Hell I don’t even really need any vehicle.

That Jeep is out there. If you will part with 20-25,000 dollars , you can get something nice , even from afar .

Contact Grant Gilbert , Gilbert Jeeps, in Athens , Al, and tell him Andy Gullion sent you , and you want something like I got . He's online and you can e mail via his website.

He hunts em down , and he buys only nice stuff , from individuals , in the rust free south .

Avoid any rust whatsoever if possible .

There is also a place in Georgia that sells mainly Jeeps , and they had an LJ Rubicon I believe . A plane ticket ain't much .

New ones hit the market all the time , still a lot of em in barns , storage , garages ...I see them sitting all over .

Thanks! I’ll shoot him a message. I contacted wrangler ranch if that’s who you’re referring to in GA with what I’m looking for. I also have a buddy who is a car salesman who is helping.

If you find one in the southern Willamette Valley (Eugene airport) I'll be Morgan Freeman and you can be Ms. Daisy (as long as you fly in on a Saturday).

Thanks! I've seen this one, theres a couple of good looking white ones around, and a ton of khaki. For right now I'm limiting myself hard to Impact Orange. If I'm still looking in a couple of months that might change but I love that color and how unique it is.

One will turn up. Be patient grasshopper.

I think I would consider a non-rubicon LJ in the future, the more I read through the rubicon worth it thread, but it would have to be lower miles than what’s by you @Squatch with the rubicon still being priority.

This does not meet your criteria but it is a beautiful long wheelbase orange jeep! Thought it required sharing.

My list ;).

Wanted:

Must Have:
LJR (2005-2006 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon)
Impact Orange
Automatic
No altered body work (cut fenders, drilled armor (can be returned to look stock)
Less than 150k miles
No frame/body rust

Preferred:
Hard Top (can buy one for ~1k)
Cruise (can retro after)
Compass Mirror (can retro after)
Clean / no mods
Less than 100k miles
Jeep not from the rust belt (mid-west, north east)

Hoping for under 20k, would consider 25k for something very very clean.

This is a manual, but hits all your other must haves, only 37k miles, but a whopping $27k. It has a lift but no details.

Another that fits your bill, except for the color. If I found the right LJR except for the color, I would just spend some money getting it painted. What is the cost for a paint job, like $2k for our jeeps?

From what I’ve read and been unofficially quoted it’s about 4-6k. I’d get black if I wanted to get it resprayed which I am pursuing. With black I could leave the engine bay, interior and rollbars black and just paint hood, door jams and exterior.

That one in Boone does look nice. Are you located near there? (EDIT: Ahh never mind you're in CT)

Yeah, sorry, I am close to the orange manual one if you need eyes on it. Here is real good one, only issue appears to be the color. Automatic, 90k miles and unmolested...except for wheels and radio.

And holy cow, really, $5k for a paint job...we don't even have an upper half of the car.

Yeah it's the prep which costs the money, it takes a lot of time and labor isn't cheap especially in my area. Non-black would be more difficult as it'd look goofy with a silver engine bay and orange hood and I'm sure painting the engine bay would be quite expensive.

I'm reaching out to the one in Boone, that looks like a good deal if it's rust free. I'll have to ask around if any forum members are near there. And I really am going to stick to automatic, I think long term it just makes sense in my specific situation.

The information about production numbers I have shows there were only 661 impact orange LJR's produced. Its not the rarest color but does limit the availability. A repaint might be worth exploring. Plus you could adjust the color and make it unique. House of Kolors has some nice oranges. This CJ is painted in Tangelo.

Yeah agreed, you have to figure at least 3/4 of those are either too far modded for what I'm looking for, manuals, or rusted out/in scrap yards by now too which makes the pool about 170 if I have to guess. Nearly all the ones I've seen available are manuals.
