Cost to paint a TJ?

painting isn’t the expensive part

the prep work is what your paying for.

there was a company that would spray a car for $500. because that’s all they did. zero prep work. 55mph later. most the paint was gone.

He nailed it-

The shoot is 45 minutes work, the disassembly, prep and reassembly is days.

Your looking at about 50-75 hours of prep and sanding.
This is disassembly, then sanding and pre painting prep and reassembly.
The paint cost for imron elite single stage aircraft paint for sale is about $500 per gallon you will need two gallons for a TJ,
plus primer.
Then you primer and sand followed by more primer and sanding.
Once you spray the color then sand that down followed by spraying is and sanding it down.
About 4 coats will do followed by color sanding then polishing which will take about 20-40 hours. before you reassemble it.
Been there done that.

Way more involved than I ever imagined. Geez

The cost is directly proportionate to the level of desired finish.

Another big factor as stated is the disassembly and reassembly.

Check out Marketplace as you will likely find pros painting on the side.

Understanding painting costs can vary by region this question is mainly for you guys in the Southeast. I’m getting quotes to paint only the exterior body of my 99’. It has no dents, deep scratches etc. just a few minor scratches and the clear coat is coming off the hood. Standing 15’ away you’d never notice but for me that’s all I can see is the paint imperfections. So what’s the average cost these days to have a TJ painted? Thanks.

Light scratched in the clear coat can be buffed out. The hood will probably have to be sanded and resprayed with at least clear coat.

That looks like kevlar, not bedliner. There's a couple of places I know of that do a lot of Jeeps (mostly JKs & JLs) with kevlar. One is South Florida, the other is Dallas. I can't decide if I really like it or hate it. I love the idea of not worrying about scratches and dings or keeping it shiny. I think it looks better than bedliner. I have seen one in person that was done by the place in TX. I haven't ruled it out (but it's very doubtful I would actually do it) for when I get to that phase of my project, which is the last phase, which I may not live long enough to actually get to at this rate.

Ahhh you may be right

Ive been looking at the TFL truck video on spraying bedliner and it seems vary cheap and practical. Kevlar looks like its a tad bit more professionally, so yeah maybe it was Kevlar. Ive always had my truck beds Line-X sprayed and they amaze me to their VERY longterm durability

This young man did an older Tacoma for $300
Seems far more practical for an off road vehicle that sees abuse Vs some shine that you gotta maintain and polish. Esp for those of us up in snowpocalypse areas with road salt to contend with

I paid 1200usd to repaint my top from black to tan and my upper door to match with a pro. It would have been more if the top and the upper were not detachable for sure!
For the rest of the car If you want a real spray like factory shit that will last as if you bought a brand new car it’s around 7000-9000 usd. Don’t laugh I don’t make the prices

Admittedly that does look nice 👍
I went the opposite way. Beige to black

$15 white can of Rustoleum, thinner, mixing cups
HVLP sprayer and 6 coats
One afternoon

BTW for anyone that decides to repaint a top,
They have new rear hinge hardware cheap.
I just bedlined it for extended life

I sprayed mine at home with Custom coat. I talked to them over the phone and they indicated their product was the same as the raptor liner.

I watched a ton of videos and I wanted the finish very fine but I kept reading how it didn't hold up as well as a normal spray. There is a company here in town that does amazing work and even some of their spray on products look very smooth. The only problem with that is they charge about the same as getting the jeep painted like normal.

Like everyone has said already, 99% of the work was prep even on a bedliner job. I removed everything I could remove off the jeep and sanded and spray painted the bumpers, armor, sliders,... It was a lot of work but I'm pleased with how it came out.
