The cowl on 01 Jeep is flaking the clear coat, so I'd like to either have sprayed or re-spray it myself. I have painted a few things in the past, it's been a few yew years, but I do have a couple of paint guns. That said, I was looking and can get an 8oz spray can of the paint for about $15 on amazon, it's the PR4 flame red. Has anyone had success or what's my chances of successfully scuffing and repainting the cowl with an 8oz spray can? I figure it can't look much worse and if I totally screw it up, I just pay someone to respray or go buy paint store paint and do again.

FWIW....I thought about buying one on ebay for $100 already the correct color, but I haven't seen one with perfect paint, so right back where I started.

P.S. to complicate things, the passenger fender has a rust spot forming about 1" wide and about 4-5" long, so I need to repair that as well. This seems to be a common rust spot, is there a reason? I figure it won't be perfect, but anything has to be better than pealing clear and rust!

Last thing, were these clear coated from factory? This jeep had taken out a street sign with prior owner, so aftermarket driver fender and hood I believe, so some of the front has been resprayed.

Pretty sure all years were clear coated, easier to sell shiny on the lot.

I've bought from here before with very good matching color. Mine is Sienna Pearl. FWIW, if you do I would buy the clear from them too. I did once and great results, later needed to do another section and used a different brand clear and it didn't apply as well. Redid with same clear and worked great. Did the exact same steps so don't know what the difference was but for me it is just worth knowing it worked best together.

And you bought the spray or the actual mix? I know reds can be tricky, but this is a pretty simple red it appears.

I actually wonder if I should bite the bullet and buy the mix, just in case I need to paint the entire fender? I'm hoping for a nice easy and quick patch job though. Spray best for that.
