Can someone tell me what this part is and does? It’s on the right side of the engine with two foam connections on each side. One of the connections has come loose so I need to replace. Does it have anything to do with the heating system.

That is a vacuum line. You need to follow it and see where it goes to determine if it has an effect on HVAC system.

I ended up replacing this as it came completely off and was hissing. I still don’t know for sure its purpose. I do know my heat only blows at my feat and defrost. Not sure if this line affects that.

Yes, if you have a leak in the vacuum lines it will cause air to blow out only the defrost and the floor pans.

Is there one particular line that causes this behavior? Would be great if I could isolate this down. Thanks for your help!

Just follow the black tubing. The line could be broke, cracked, unplugged at the T junction or at an end plug. Any of those will cause the same outcome.

I traced the line from the firewall to the T and then it goes to the 2nd picture. Should that 2nd pic be connected to something?

Yes, the top of the T goes into the firewall and the 2nd pic shows the end of the long wire on the drivers side. It ends there but not connected to anything. Pasting pic of that again.

That is the hvac vacuum line. It should connect to a vacuum port on the intake.

Air only comes out of the defrost vents?

edit:

That’s looks like line for sure but I don’t see any open ports that’s don’t already have a connection. I posted picture of the ports on my intake. The red line is one I just replaced because the rubber boot was broken. Wondering if my intake has a port that I’m not seeing. Still looking.

After a trip to your local eye doc, try this.

Awesome! Glad it was helpful, didn't realize it wasn't a 4.0.

Probably should have read the prior posts and I would have known...

Should be happier without the vacuum leak.
