What did you do to your TJ today?

This is good to know. My Savvy cable arrived a few weeks ago and I have been waiting for a bit warmer weather (coinciding with free time) to attempt the install.

I was looking at it last night and looks like it’s possible without dropping skid . Just getting to that top bracket bolt seems like a pain. I have plenty of tools. I worked as a mechanic for 12 years. Should get here Wednesday it’s says it’s on the way. Yours looks a lot cleaner underneath than mine. 👍

If it helps anybody, my blow-by-blow:

AND...

DROP THE SKID!! It doesn't take very long and you'll thank me later.

Windrock Rattle Rock and School Bus today (still on the trail currently); 3 TJ's and 4 JK's. One JK broke a RCV 1/4 way up and had to duck out (pun intended 😂). Full post to come later tomorrow.

Well damn, I remember when the CosMos in Richardson opened, I was in line with my TJ blasting the AC... the temp got up past 220 and I shut it down... I sat there for over an hour in 115* weather.... it was killer...

I might look into it since my temps usually sit around 205-210, but idling even in the heat we have currently (Like high 70s) it will creep past 220 until I start moving again.

yeah the most ive seen my coolant was in the 240s range maybe ?(needle was touching the red on the guage)😅 Stock system,Hot day at bridgeport OVH doing donuts in the quarry/gravel pit after some crawling what caused such temp was cause i had a microfiber towel that was stuck on my radiator...... my stomach just dropped dude when i glanced at my guage, Im never doing that mistake again! im sure i left that towel there when i washed my jeep...

IMO there shouldn't any harm if it touches 220 and stays there 🤷🏼‍♂️AZ jeeps see those temps all the time
Let me makes this clear, My jeep only saw "that much" temp. at idle only 1 time at that HEB with the OD pulley, its not like it does that on a frequent basis cause its rare that im idling for well over 40 minutes in hellish 115* Plus Summer temps, However in the 90* ish days its seen 30 minutes idle on many many occasions but it doesn't get hot and the AC functions fine ! the needle stays on 210 or a smidge under the 210 mark in the 90s !

When I'm stopped in traffic during 110+ summer temps, I bring the engine up to around 1200-1500 RPM. The faster engine speed turns the cooling fan, water pump, and AC compressor faster, so the AC works better and the coolant temps stay lower. I do this with the TJ and also with my other daily driver.

In case you are interested, myself and another AZ member installed the brushless Spal Camaro fan from Steelcity06’s thread.

I have two coolers in the grill, and my cooling system was previously good to go unless I turned the AC on (temps would creep on me).

It’s only gotten to about 95* so far, but both of our coolant temps were good to go in the sunny heat with the AC on (temps peaked at 204* with the controller settings that Steelcity06 recommended).

We both noticed that our AC blows noticeably cold in idle and slow traffic. And, we can bump up the fan speed if we need it when things get hotter.

I’ll update the fan thread once I have summer results.

I've seen SteelCitys post and I'm hooked on it! I'll most likely do the conversion later on but not yet cause it's a bit pricey,My coolant systems works pretty good but I'd like get the benefit of having the electric fan eitherway for more power and the additional cooling😁

I already Got the high output alt. Just need new battery cables&such!

Nice write up. Thanks you for the info I will use it when installing. Yes I will drop the skid. Mine takes a little bit more than the stock version but not a pain at all. I have a rock krawler kit that has like 8 bolts per side. Still not hard though.

Edited after looking at a picture and finding out I did in fact remove my skid to clean up some light rust on the bottom of the frame and top of the skid. 😵‍💫

I left my skid on I removed my skid band disconnected the driveshaft from the transfer case and wrapped a bungee cord around it and the frame to hold it out of the way. I also put a mark on the driveshaft end and transfer case end so I knew I was putting it back together exactly like it was.

Got the rear soft brake line mostly changed out. Old one is out, new one is bolted in, one line is attached and tight, another one is threaded in but still loose, the last one is fighting me, so it'll have to wait. Probably until Monday as its supposed to rain like crazy tomorrow.

Leaving a brake line attached but loose and ending for the day... Risky. Hope you don't forget!!!

Got stuck out in the woods on Monday and had to get towed home because my harmonic balancer let go and the acc belt would not stay on. Got it to the main road by just pulling the belt off then drive...wait to cool...drive...wait to cool....rinse/repeat until I got to pavement. Then another 4 hours sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck Probably could have driven it home quicker and just stopped every 5 minutes to let it cool down.

Welp, there's your problem.....

I was able to get it out with the 3 arm puller in the picture and just used a longer 1/2x20 bolt to reinstall it because I could not get the proper install tool to fit without removing the radiator. All in all a pretty easy job. Been chasing a squeak for a while, and at this point the only pulley not replaced in the last 6 months is the water pump. The elusive squeak is now gone. It was probably the HB the whole time.......

Speaking of. Do the 2002 not have a fold forward/tilting driver seat? My Sahara doesn’t have the finger loop on the front but the passenger side does so I’m assuming it doesn’t because it can’t get it to fold forward.

Mine does not have the tumble feature on the driver's side either. I don't know if that is standard for the year or not.

My 2001 Sahara driver seat has the loop on the front and will fold/tumble. And as of this morning, it also had the new bottom seat cushion foam from Summit:

All I can say is WOW! As comfortable as any car seat I've ever sat in, this is going to make the daily drive that much better!

Side question: my driver seat has the black latch at the rear of the seat base, but pulling that does not allow the seat back to recline. I soaked the coil spring and entire area in Kroil for a couple days while the seat was out of the Jeep and the foam was off. No difference. Should it recline?
