Starting over: A lightweight Rock Crawling Daily Driver

Driving to work this morning and the jeep started idling very rough at the stop light and then the cel started flashing.

If I could just have one week where something doesn’t go wrong I would be a happier man.

And now the Jeep runs fine. Any thoughts? My guess is bad gas or I know it has a non wranglerfix aftermarket pcm, I hope it’s not related but it has been a worry of mine since I noticed it.

If you have a cel still on see what code was thrown. If you don’t have a code reader yet you should definitely get one.

No cel it was flashing but was never a fixed, it’s now on the list of two things I’ll have when I get back to my actual house, but that won’t be of help for another 5 months.

@mrblaine any tips on rabiting the aluminum? First attempt on some scrap only made it about a half inch before rendering the bit useless.

Diablo Straight cut 1/2in carbide but

Do you do multiple passes at 1/16 or one pass at 3/16?

I set a fence inboard of the base for my inner edge of the rabbett. Then with lots of control and my bit at the correct depth, just start taking thin passes in from the outer edge. The way I stop the tilt is clamp another piece of the same material to support the other side of the router base.

Borrowed a skill saw and used it to roughly notch one end, battery ran out before I could finish the other side, so in the meantime I’m gonna finish drilling.

Went through a period like this on my '04 LJ. Every time I fixed one thing, something else would pop up. I was convinced that the Jeep simply didn't want to reside at my residence. With a little encouragement, and a lot of determination, it was all sorted out and the Jeep is a pleasure to drive now. You'll get there as well!

I remember, there were a good few times I thought you’d sell the Lj instead of the Tj.

I used a cheap router table plate squared up a straight edge and clamped to the table , 1/4 end mill on my router, applied cutting wax after each pass . IMG_2031.jpegIMG_2036.jpegIMG_2033.jpeg

when I made mine , also made a wood jig for the light cut out

Turned out pretty good , for the first attempt
Basically tried to copy Blaine’s design IMG_2190.jpeg
