Hey guys,
Little bit of a background on my build and why I’m asking the question in general. I’ve got an 02 TJ that’s about to have a 5.9 magnum, it’s got aftermarket front and rear bumpers, a winch, and a spare. I’m looking to go to a 4” spring in the front and 3” spring in the rear to mostly have leveled out suspension with 35s, I also have a 1.25” body lift. My problem is determining which springs to use by which brand, I was looking at Rockjock/currie springs but have read they can be soft which wouldn’t really be great for my on road drivability with the extra weight of the 5.9 and the bumper and winch. I’d prefer a dual rate spring to improve my on road drivability as much as possible(yes I know it’s a Jeep so it can only be so good). My use of the TJ is a daily driver as well as going out and taking it rock crawling as much as possible. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

@Wildman and @NashvilleTJ how did you pick front springs for your V8s?

We are both different animals. I run coilovers and Rick runs air springs.

But on mine, I went through a bunch of combinations of rates to get to where i was happy with the amount of preload to get to a good ride height. Also, a dual spring coilover is a true dual rate spring, so you can tune the ride a good bit.

But the difference with the Hemi was not much. The supercharged 4.0 it replaced was not very different in weight.

I had ProComp 4" springs and then ACOS in front when I first did my Magnum swap. If you're looking for a way to level your suspension front to rear & then side to side it might work to look at the ACOS as an option.

But yes as Jeff said I now have air springs so I don't have any issues with leveling my ride with the Hemi.

TJ spring rates have nothing to do with ride quality. They just set the ride height. For ride quality you need to focus on shocks.

I spent close to 45 minutes on the phone with Brandon at Rockjock Monday.

Give them a call, them them your plans and build and they will help you.

And JMT is right.

A quick google show a 5.9 around 550lbs and a 4.0 at 510 pounds…. So if that is accurate I don’t think I would sweat 40lbs much.

Springs won’t do anything for ride quality. Focus on shocks for that. A Jeep can handle really well if the time is put into the suspension, problem is most aren’t.

Your comment of it’s a Jeep it can only ride so good, well I can tell you mine rides great!
