I have come across a carrier for sale in the UK with what looks like a locker in it (picture below). Any thoughts on what sort of locker it is? Thanks for any input.
It's an automatic locker. I'm not familiar enough with them to know what brand from just that picture. Aussie, Torq, PowerTrax, Spartan. A lot of guys run them. I had one in the Dana 30 on my last TJ.
It’s a lunchbox locker. Replaces the spider gears of an open carrier. What brand it is would be anyone’s guess unless it’s marked. I’d avoid it and get a real locker.
It's not junk it's a common lunchbox automatic locker. It's impossible to know who made it, but they are a "real" locker. They work fine in a front axle, I happily ran one for years in my previous TJ, but they're very poorly behaved when on the street in a rear axle.
That picture looks like it has a small spring inside the bigger spring, which several automatic lockers do. I think you can rule out a Torq Locker because it doesn't use two springs, only one. Looks different than my Torq Locker too.
I think you're right. That rectangular window centered on the flat looks pure no-slip to me. The lock right has an oval shaped spring and pin window over on the rounded surface, and the Spartan has a tiny slot with a couple of offset pin holes.
