Improving the cooling on our TJs

Intake manifold is right on top of the exhaust manifold and two catalytic converters. Cats are can heat up up to 1000F. I don't think that one needs exhaust leak to get his intake manifold to very high temps.

Fwiw, my true IAT temps are ridiculous from the turbo in my 05/06, and my coolant temps hold up just fine.

And the IAT sensor in the manifold is known to heat soak and read higher than what the IAT would read in the tube for the 05/06.

@TexasTJ2004 did you end up installing a mopar radiator?

I often forget that some TJ’s have the IAT sensor in the intake manifold.

Meanwhile got my secondary cooling circle up and running.
Here i have heat exchanger that gets the hot coolant from the engine, and heats up the heat exchanger.
Then the secondary loop with its own separate coolant and electric water pump goes through the heat exchanger, then the standard heater core, then to a additional heater core in front, located near the winch, and it had separate electric fan.
I can activate the electric fan from the cabin, using a switch.
It is really ugly, but it is just the first revision on it.

You wouldn't need to run all that Rube Goldberg crap if you'd just get rid of that shitty Autozone radiator.

Certainly makes logical troubleshooting sense…especially when he has the Mopar on hand. The Mopar has proven to hold up well in 120* while crawling in the rocks.

I don’t understand why you would complicate things with a bandaid rather than fixing the problem. You have the correct part, just install it and then go from there.

No you did not need to Rube Goldberg it, all you had to do was rip that shitty Autozone radiator out and install the Mopar. Jeez.

I don’t like to admit that I am wrong, but this might (just might) be a case that is wrong.
I will install this guy with together with new Hayden 2791 fan clutch. Let see what gets me.

Maybe consider removing your engineering hat and installing your troubleshooting hat.

You weren’t wrong when you ordered the Mopar radiator…you’ve since decided to fight that decision and do whatever it is you’ve been doing.

Give him a break, it’s just the first revision (oh goody)

My original problem because of which I had to go through this Rube Goldberg machine, was that I have a leaking heater core. So, I was too lazy to deal with replacing heater core, so I decided to build this secondary system, put into secondary circuit quickseal, and this solved the leaking heater core problem. This way heater core never sees any pressure, because the secondary system is not pressurized, It is expansion tank based.
So, since I already have this thing running, adding to it additional heater core with fan in front seems an easy addition.
But, I could avoid all this mess by going directly to replacing the leaking heater core and putting Mopar radiator instead of my autozone lifetime warranty garbage.

I am talking about idling for 50 minutes outside of a place where I take the kid for activities. This with AC and automatic transmission.

Dang. Idling for nearly an hour with the AC on.

I dunno if the new radiator is gonna solve that problem, but hopefully it does. If not, try driving around the parking lot instead if sitting stationary and idling. Or at least raise the idle RPM to spin the fan and water pump faster.

My problem is idling with AC. Not when I wheel, or not when I am in heavy traffic.
My original concern was that Mopar radiator will not address it.

There ya go, install the Mopar radiator, Mopar fan clutch (Hayden makes a stronger one, but MOPAR works) , Mopar fan, good thermostat (195 deg) and a mopar water pump. Good thermostat… be done with it! It WILL WORK… I PROMISE!!! I live in the hottest city in the US and can go without overheating and have cold AC. Yes, sometimes you’ll need to idle up a little bit during long idle if to chill the AC.

I’ve done this MANY times and stock always works… ALWAYS, some aftermarket works too, and some doesn’t! But you’re too far into the weeds to keep “trying” stuff … I’ve been driving these things since I got a license and had about 6 of them. They all needed radiators , either came with crap or stock crapped out.
