Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Crazy year for Spokane as far as snow goes but the bright side is that you have a White Christmas. I've been watching the weather for you guys and it's been one of the worst since I've lived here. And I use to drive to Spokane one a month on my supply run.
I'd cleaned the hood of the motorhome off this morning and am going to have to do it all over again. I want to get a battery tender on the batteries in it.

The one good thing about this recent snow is it's so light and dusty. I pulled my Stihl blower out and cleared a lot of the fresh stuff off my neighbors car. Works like a charm. Maybe you can do that for your motorhome hood.

I don't have a blower but yes the snow here is that light.

But it's supposed to be 43 and raining Christmas day
I'm definitely over winter already (which starts tomorrow) I wasn't mentally prepared for the amount of snow we've gotten so far

You & me BOTH. I've seen it where there wasn't any snow here until January and been able to ride my bike in March. Supposed to be around 35* here in Christmas with a chance of show.

That's wat scares me about my mail route. We've had a bunch of powder lately and now we're going to be double digit cold for a couple days with a lot of wind. Add in warm temps and more snow fall and it's going to get .... "INTERESTING" real fast!!!

All that powder is going to make for some nasty drifts.

Got the upper radiator hose in but because of the size of the thermostat neck I can't use my clamps I'd ordered in that end. Threw a regular clamp on it for now. I'm to the point where I can fill the engine with coolant and the power steering with fluid now. I'm just not sure if I want to wait for the other clamps to arrive or if I should get stuff filled and check stuff out and then drain a little out once they arrive.

The new headlight retainer rings and screws arrived today so I got them installed also.

Then installed the pieces around the headlights.

These flex hoses save the day.

Is it just the angle of the pic or is the idler for your A/C misaligned a little forward from the other 2 pulleys?

I think it's just the angle of the picture but I'll double check it tomorrow and make sure. Thanks.

Edit: In these pictures it looks OK

But the bolt might be loose too so I'll double check it tomorrow.

Going to go pick up new welding gas cylinders tomorrow. Since I've got more stainless-steel welding, I need to do I'm going to spring for another small bottle of tri-mix. Hopefully a filled bottle will solve my flow issues and I can get the last of my welding done. I've still got a lot to do on the front axle before I paint it and a little on the rear axle. I'd like to get the cat & muffler on the Jeep before I trying starting the engine and letting it run for a while. I've got to get the fuel sync set once it's up to temp and then I could call that part of this done.

Still a LOT of things to get done but it's nice to see things moving along. Trying to decide if I'm going to try to take my hydro-assist cylinder apart myself or send it back to PSC and have them install a limiter shim for me. I know others have done it, but I don't have the soft jaws for my vice, and I still haven't gotten the vice mounted to a bench yet. There is this video out there on how to do the limiter shim install.

Yep, it was just the angle of the picture. I'd hit the wide angle shot on my phone so maybe that is what was throwing it off?

You had me worried since it did look like it was out of alignment, and I was trying to figure out why & how.

20221221_203442.jpg

I'd planned on taking a picture of this earlier and had forgotten. This was from a snow wheeling trip where I'd bounced the grill off a stump that was buried in the snow. It was when I still had stock fenders and I bent the drivers side one bad enough it was when I'd decided to get tube fenders.

The plastic surround survived it too but did crack it. But it still works so why replace it?

Ahh, Memories!

I had my LJ at the body shop to weld in new metal on the right rear to fix a corrosion issue. They asked if I wanted whole side buffed out to get rid of the " pinstripes". Heck no, I dragged that jeep 1700 miles out west to get those. It's character!

Since it was COLD today I worked on wiring after taking care of chores around the house. I brought in the stuff I needed to do some wiring work. The first project was to fix the ARB locker wiring so that either the front or rear locker could be activated independently of each other.

ARB Wiring Bypass.jpg

Not a super hard mod but worth the effort IMO.

20221222_133536.jpg

Brown Santa dropped off some stuff and in one box were these. Now I've got to figure out where to mount them.

20221222_145204.jpg

Next was to do the wiring for the incab winch controls.

20221222_170726.jpg

And then 5 other switches not including the 3 for the ARB lockers & compressor.

20221222_190019.jpg

I've got "Engine Fan" "Flood Lights" "Spot Lights" "LED Lightbar" "Winch Power" "Winch Direction Control" & USB charging There are 6 slots on the center console so I'll have Winch Power, Winch DIrection, ARB Compressor, ARB Front Locker, ARB Rear Locker & USB Port Then in the vents I'll mount the other 4 switches.

20221222_190026.jpg

To help with wiring the switches I'd bought these base plates that with wire ends that are supposed to lock into the blocks, but for whatever it's worth the wire ends don't lock into the block.

20221222_190202.jpg

But I'd had other ends ordered that were the correct size.

While I was searching for some information on wiring up my winch with the new contactor instead of solenoids an ad popped up on a site for a muffler with some type of valve or something on it. So I had to go look.

Comes with a controller and you can change the note of the exhaust. A little $$$ but still interesting. Would like to hear one in person before I spent the money on one.

I'd ordered spring clamps for the one heater hose, but of course you can't get JUST ONE.

20221223_120809.jpg

20221223_124259.jpg

And a spring clamp assortment kit so I could do all the vacuum lines and the lines to the catch can.

20221223_120815.jpg

20221223_124224.jpg

I'd forgotten to mention this yesterday, I have a OD indicator light that I'll put on the center console to indicate when it's turned off.

Then brown santa dropped off more parts. I'd ordered some exhaust band clamps to be able to test out the exhaust until I weld everything up. Right now I need to add the two O2 sensor bungs into the exhaust pipe so I can hook them up. Did a quick test fit before crawling under the Jeep.

20221223_142122.jpg

20221223_142131.jpg

Then hooked it all up.

20221223_143542.jpg

Then broke out the radiator fill kit and gave it a try......

20221223_145320.jpg

It's supposed to seal around the radiator neck.

20221223_145105.jpg

And has this funnel that sits on top.

20221223_145400.jpg

With a plunger that is made so you can remove it and not lose the coolant that's in the funnel.

20221223_145407.jpg

But it was a FAIL.... It leaked.

Then I needed to tighten down the distributor clamp.

20221223_151536.jpg

To do this you can try to get a wrench down there or use a special distributor wrench that fits on your ratchet.

20221223_151551.jpg

It helps a LOT on these rear mounted distributor engines but is even handy with front mounted ones.

Fired it up with coolant in the radiator and fluid in the power steering reservoir.

Yep, DAMN IT I'd forgotten to tighten the AN fittings on radiator for the transmission.

Then fired her up for a second time. Need to hook up then Snap On scanner and see where my fuel sync is right now. IMO it's got to be running super lean as the headers are getting really HOT in a short amount of time. I am using a 5.2 PCM so I need to get in contact with @Flyin' Ryan Performance and get him to write me my initial tune so I can have a starting point.

But DAMN it doesn't sound too bad at this point.

👍I’ve seen electrically controlled cut outs before (considered it for my Mustang- but decided against the complexity and went with loud all the time😀). But I haven’t seen it done inside the muffler which is cool because you don’t need a separate dump.

Yes, it is a cool idea. and I'd never seen it done inside a muffler before either, so I thought I'd share it. I'm going to try and find out some more information on them and maybe find some sound clips?
