Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

One of those quirks of the 1997 TJ is that the opening for the HVAC box is open towards the cowl. This can allow rain and leaves or other crap to get into it easier.

A fix for this is to get a later years cover for it.

It fits over the inlet like it was made for it.

This wasn't something I figured out. I stole the idea off JeepForum from a build thread where the member is making a TJ pickup. I'll post a link later.

And it fits under the cowl with no modification.

This is what that side of the underside of the cowl looks like on that side.

Here's the link for his build. He has done a lot of great tricks to this build. It's got a magnum V-8 swap and a frame stretch on top of a bunch of other stuff.

Hot Damn 🔥 I just got a email from Skinny Pedal and my tires shipped today.
So they should be here in about a week. I don't know where I'm going to put them but happy they're coming.

I figured that the tires would be coming via truck shipment but got a tracking number today.

My UPS driver is going to HATE me Monday. I've got to clear up a spot for these tires.

Woke up feeling like crap 😕 this morning so I took the day off.

If he gets too upset, ask him to imagine how he'd feel if he had to deliver them suckers on a snowmobile!!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'm sure he'd just tell me to pick them up myself.

But I think I'd pay to see someone strap 4 38" tires on the back of a snowmobile.

Ok, if you insist. Just reroute your shipment to my address and I'll strap them to the snowmobile so you can have your nostalgia pic...

I think I'll have to pass on that. I've been waiting for 3 months for these tires. Just ask @Apparition about waiting on tires. I think he's had his on order longer than I have. Maybe they are out of rubber or something? Mine are smaller than the ones he ordered. I'm just glad they are finally arriving.

No guarantee that they wont get lost in shipping after said pics have been taken....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Nope I think UPS might get a little tired of dealing with me. I had two shipments that never arrived this past week. Thankfully one of them was thru Amazon so I already got my refund from them.

I finally broke down and ordered the stainless exhaust pieces I needed for my tankless water heater. UPS driver had it in her truck all day after she had already stopped here twice. 6:45PM, here comes the UPS driver again (third time) with my package. Opened it up and the most crucial part I needed (the 4" x 48" pipe) was listed on the invoice but it wasn't in the box. So I had to put the old stuff back on and now get to wait a week for the pipe to show up...

Ordered end of May at 7 day expected delivery and they are now telling me March.

OK I started to feel better around 8 PM so I went out to the garage around 9 and messed around with a few things and then couldn't help myself and crawled under the Jeep to look at the cables and how they would mount up. Since I was already under there I said the heck with it and started to install the cables.

Then I climbed up top and hooked up the cables to the shifter levers.

The cables look good but I'm going to try putting a piece of body molding on this edge so the cables don't rub on it.

They come out nicely thru the tub.

20211210_231547.jpg

I've got to check but I don't think there is anything that is attached to this bolt hole and if not I'll going to clearance the top of it a little to all the cable to sit a little flatter.

I of course can't shift the transfer case right now because it isn't turning right now but it's all hooked up and everything fits. Tomorrow I'll hook up the transmission shifter just to make sure it all fits.

a piece of that cheap U edge like on the fender by the battery would work fine.

nice job.

got up early to get the Jeep out for a run since it's 66 outside ATM and wouldn't you figure it's pouring rain. did i ever mention I HATE THIS STATE anymore.

here and lets get this over with too.

you were pretty green with that welder when you got started, and now your doin better. so as you work through finishing up things. if you come across one of those early welds and you think it's not the caliber your capable of laying now. be proactive and maybe run it over to ensure your all good.

I think we're talking about the same type of stuff. This is the type of stuff I'm thinking. I actually think I have some laying around but I've got to check.

Damn that SUCKS. Bummer it's raining but that is what a top is for.

Thanks again for all the welding advice you've offered and given along the way. I will make sure to do this and if I'm not sure about some of my early welds I'll lay a bead over it. Trust me you aren't gunna offend me by offering your advice or criticize my welds or other choices I'm making. Please call me out if you think I'm fucking up.

The SHIT that chaps my ass is the petty bullshit and then hiding behind the ignore button. It bugs me even more when they started the SHIT by talking trash about my build or how I wasn't taking advice offered. This shit couldn't be further from the truth.
And I can't help it if anyone gets BUTTTHURT if I don't follow their advice. Yes I might be making mistakes or errors in how I'm doing my build but it's MY build and I'll either like it or I'll go back and change it.

bustin your chops right out the gate would have got in your head and made it more difficult for you to figure how you can work the equipment.
hard to make anybody understand what they can't picture.
but now you know the difference, from the beginning to what your layn now and more importantly understand the difference.

had you not advanced your ability i would have chimed in earlier, but your progressing and understanding. and also now have the ability to look at a weld and say, is it good or should i fix that 1.

advice ........... i ask, i listen, and i make an assessment. and i'm a stubborn ol bastard, i like to do things myself.
some are set in their way they go about things and they have found solutions that work and those are the standards they abide by and deviation is "not the way i do it".
the leaf was great until the coil came about. the coil was great until a coil over came out. the solid axle was the king until IFS came about.
i don't try and see what we have as the end all of anything.........can it be better? is there another way? why can't we do this instead? until someone can find the dead end of an idea, nothing should be off the table or dismissed as foolish.
it's the questions that generate the ideas of forward progression, if we settle for this is it, we cannot ever progress.

what i find more annoying is the fact that some threads never get real answers. lots of conjecture, lots of smoke and mirrors to illusions of better but no real direction on how to get there sometimes.
take suspension, how many threads end up talking AD, AS and IC and nobody ever really lays out any tangible solution, just references to points most don't really know how to control or adjust for a desirable result in a particular situation.
there is such a wide spectrum of situations based on the amount of modification done to these vehicles, every situation is unique and there is not any cookie cutter, bolt on, weld on end all best solution.

Totally agreed on all points.
