It wouldn't be the end of the world to swap in the motor from an SRT Grand. It really is, because I sometimes very much miss my Hellcat![]()
What transmission are you going to pair with it?The R2.8 is where I’m going when I replace this dog. Selfishly I wouldn’t mind seeing Chris do it just for more datapoints!
Probably just have to stretch the wheelbase a bit and massage the firewall a little, no?It wouldn't be the end of the world to swap in the motor from an SRT Grand.
6L80What transmission are you going to pair with it?
My bud with a R2.8 swapped YJ is running a 6L80 and loves it...6L80
The 8HP90 is shorter than the 545RFE, so it isn't much longer than your 42RLE - plus most G3 Hemi mounts move the block forward a few inches. You may have some clearance considerations with your upper link mounts but shouldn't be ridiculous based on others that I've seen wedge G3's into LJs.Probably just have to stretch the wheelbase a bit and massage the firewall a little, no?
They have EGR and a catalyst. No dpf and no scr. They meet 1999 emissions standards.I'm onboard for the R2.8 also. Would love to get 20mpg and torque up a hill with ease. I wouldn't like the diesel smell on trail though, wonder how dirty they are.
Hmm, last I saw it was pre-OBD-II Fed standards, though Cummins Repower has been working with the EPA and CARB to get it approved for later year swaps... Where did you see the 1999 compliance??They have EGR and a catalyst. No dpf and no scr. They meet 1999 emissions standards.

I have full confidence that my LS swap will go smooth as butter. There won't be any complications or headaches and everything will work exactly as I want right out of the box. I mean I watched a few vids on YouTube... What can possibly go wrong?I don't know of any LS swap that was done that did not have a range of issues that needed to be sorted, dealt with, trouble shot, and resolved over about a year's time after it was up and running.
They range from overheating, electrical issues, gauges not right, not running right, trans shifting like dogshit, etc.
If anyone knows of any individual who has nailed a swap in very short order and has a reasonably tolerable standard of how stuff should be, I would like to chat with them.
Be aware that I have nothing against LS swaps at all. I have lots of issues with doing something that takes so long to get dialed in or get left to be crappy and just put up with. That and most I know of don't make the AC work which ain't gonna fly in Chris's world.
I've spent some time chatting with the folks that have one on those "adventure" type runs to the various places. They report that it was easy to tell who had an LS swap because they spent at least some part of every day with the hood up or getting others to go get parts. Based on that, I'm not sure what WON'T go wrong.I have full confidence that my LS swap will go smooth as butter. You can have a crate LS engine, full harness, ECU and 6L80 for not much more...I mean this is one hell of a badass stroker:

Start adding things though and you can very easily get over $10,000.
That's my issue... 10k for a 4.0 stroker? Seems a bit nuts to dump that sort of money into a 4.0 in general. Of course it still ends up cheaper than a R2.8 swap, a V8 swap, etc., so maybe it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be (the price that is).
And all the headaches that go with itYou can have a crate LS engine, full harness, ECU and 6L80 for not much more...
A bit more HP and TQ tooAnd all the headaches that go with it. Is a stroker pretty much a drop in replacement?
