Welded diff / spool

I have these, so far they are holding up. Not a lot of road miles though and not cheap.

Going Dana 60 / 14B or Sterling in the future with a stretch and 40's. Looking for housing to build now.

Those are an option but so new I wouldn’t buy a 44 over a 60 for them.

Me either. Jeep came with them installed already. Someone is going to get a nice set of 44's when I get ton's built. Gonna take a while. Lots of cost to consider, wheels, tires, housings, lockers, gears, shafts, drive shafts, brackets, etc etc etc.

My personal experience with running a welded rear diff in a CJ when I was a kid. If it is a trail rig that you trailer to the trails, weld it up and go have fun. If you plan on driving it, even just to run around on the weekends, leave it open. First hand experience is that a welded diff will yield the best donuts..

i thought a lot of the issue was also the amount of engagement surface the TJ size BJ offers vs say a 1ton, once you have the leverage of a bigger wheel.

If the front Dana 44 is using Dana 30 outers it is the yokes that stretch, not necessarily the ball joints themselves that fail.

maybe my baseline is off being i have a different axle
in my instance i hear a lot about constantly having to replace shot BJ's especially once you run 37's. not many post about i ruined my C's.

i apologize if they are not apples to apples.

Some of the aftermarket axles have beefier C’s but use the normal BJ. Currie claims my axle is good to 37” tires.

Yup. Ran ProRock 60’s front and rear for years. Blew the rear 5 times in various flavors. Got tired of that and built a 14 bolt. Now granted the rear was a high pinion, semi-float. Still run the 60 up front, and no problems there.
