TJ Shock & Spring Specification Resource Thread

@Chris

I know most people are not shopping for stock springs, but perhaps we could include them in your table, for reference/comparison? @StG58 had a thread on it here. Some of the other posts in the thread mention a few other stock combos that aren't in his original chart.

@Chris, these Shocks are important since they are Savvy's current offering. I don't see them in the Table.

Front Shock
Savvy FOX-TJF4
Extended 25.150
Compressed 15.550
Travel 9.600

Rear Shock
Savvy FOX-TJR4
Extended 24.750
Compressed 15.650
Travel 9.100

I would like the free length from those shocks ideally.

FWIW, some of the shocks in the list are no longer available. If I run across them as I search, I'll send to you.

Yes, if you see something that is no longer available or doesn't belong, please let know so I can remove them.

Still loving this resource, thanks.

The "TJ Factory" entries for front and rear shocks ... are those true for all models? I would have expected a difference somewhere between SE and Rubicon.

I can’t say for sure since I didn’t take these measurements unfortunately.

Hi @Chris

Given all the attention that the Skyjacker BlackMax shocks are getting recently, I wonder if we could add them to the table? Their measurements are all on their site, like here.

Is that a front or rear shock? Where is the other front or rear shock to go with it? Having both would help (y)

There is no difference in suspension between Rubicon and non-Rubicon TJs.

Thanks. I had been told that the Rubicon springs sit a little higher, to account for the 31-ish inch tires. No?

Ha, sorry. Wrong link. I meant to send you to the page that shows all the Skyjackers for TJs. It's here.

No. Many say that. But they are incorrect.

Got it. But, the spring rates do differ a bit, right? At least, that's what I gathered from this (second post). But I guess that would still make them sit at the same level, once the extra weight is taken into account.

There were several small variances in rates and lengths to account for the different weights of different packages. I don't recall there being specific Rubicon springs or Sport springs. The goal was just to achieve a certain ride height at the factory.

Here are all the Black Max shocks I was able to find as a fit for the TJ/LJ. FYI, there were some minor discrepancies, so all the numbers I pulled are from the "Specs and Kit Notes" tab. Also, the advertised lift heights don't seem correct, so it's best to cycle the suspension and measure. FWIW, I found their shock length numbers were true, at least on the B8525 and B8518 shocks I purchased.

Front Shocks

B8516
(Front With 0 – 3 in. Lift)
  • 22.3 in. Extended
  • 13.52 in. Collapsed
  • 8.78 in. Travel

B8525 (Front With 4 – 6 in. Lift)
  • 24.30 in. Extended
  • 14.52 in. Collapsed
  • 9.78 in. Travel

B8549 (Front With 6 – 9 in. Lift)
  • 28.75 in. Extended
  • 16.56 in. Collapsed
  • 12.19 in. Travel

Rear Shocks

B8508
(Rear With 0 in. Lift)
  • 19.07 in. Extended
  • 12.07 in. Collapsed
  • 7.0 in. Travel

B8518 (Rear With 1 - 3 in. Lift)
  • 22.71 in. Extended
  • 13.93 in. Collapsed
  • 8.78 in. Travel

B8528 (Rear With 3.5 – 4 in. Lift)
  • 24.84 in. Extended

  • 10.02 in. Travel

B8563 (Rear With 6 – 8 in. Lift)

  • 11.28 in. Travel
