Sail panels are the little triangle in the door near the mirror? My Jeep has very little sun fade but those suckers are horrible.Round 2 of trim painting today.

Today went much better thanks to yesterday’s advice from @scottgraham and @AndyG. Got some grease and wax remover and more sand paper. Started with my mirrors that were also showing the fisheye issue. Sanded with 220, 400, cleaned with simple green, then with grease and wax remover. Put on some gloves, hit it with the g&w remover and then a tack cloth. Three coats of SEM trim black and this was the result:

It’s not perfect, but holy shit, it’s the best painting I’ve ever done by a mile. I was so geeked I ran in the house like a little kid to show my wife.
Still have some more sanding to do on my sail panels, but should be able to finish up before I get the Jeep back later this week.
That looks fantastic! I saw where someone got their sail panels out but I still can’t figure out how to get mine out. I would love to get them repainted.Round 2 of trim painting today.

Yep, those are the sail panels. Mine were terrible, almost white. I royally screwed up painting them yesterday but they were still an improvement on what they were earlier.Sail panels are the little triangle in the door near the mirror? They are held in with a couple of screws on the front edge of the door frame. If you roll the weather stripping back a bit you should be able to see them. You’ll also need to pull the window channel out and then they just lift out. That looks fantastic! I saw where someone got their sail panels out but I still can’t figure out how to get mine out. So the stripping between the painted frame and sail? Not between the sail and where the window rolls up?They are held in with a couple of screws on the front edge of the door frame.
