Ok, I started posting questions on somebody else's thread, however, the amount of follow on questioning that I have makes me think this needs to be it's own thread.

I have a 2.5 inch suspension lift coming this week, and I started researching tire sizes that I can mount to the stock TJR MOAB rims.

As I am no doubt thinking about this backwards (how large of tires will work with the lift, as opposed to how large of lift to accommodate tire size), I'm trying to narrow down possible tire sizes that would require the least amount of tom foolery to mount and still getting close to 33"

265/75R16
285/75R16
255/85R16

285/75R16 - From other threads I have gathered that 285/75R16 will require the use of wheel spacers and/or washers on the steering stops. Disconnected will absolutely require wheel spacers. If this option is chose what are good spacer options?

265/75R16 - From other threads I have gathered that this option would require no spacers or washers on the steering stops, could not find any info on running with sway bar disconnected.

255/85R16 - Looks like an ideal option, other than being a very odd tire size. Replacement of damaged tires might be more difficult.

I would love to hear what your opinions are of this. So to sum the whole thing up, minimize use of any spacers, 33" under a 2.5 sl. Width of tire isn't as important. Don't have swaybar disconnects yet, but probably will in the future.

I had these on my Moab wheels on my 2005 Rubicon. They do not require wheel spacers but they will rub just a little, but only on full lock turns. The solution to this to adjust the steering stops.

I had these on my Moab wheels on my 2005 Rubicon. They do not require wheel spacers and they do not rub at all.

Never had these, but it's an odd tire size so I would skip it.

My vote is for the 285/75R16s. I've had them, they don't require spacers, and they fit excellent!

I run 315/75R16 which are 34.6X12.3 mathematically. Goodyear uses the same mold as 35X12.5, so they're essentially 35X12.5R16.

I did have to use a 1.25" wheel spacer to prevent contact. I chose to buy a reputable American-made hub-centric spacer (Spidertrax). I have had zero issues with them.

Personally, I would go 285/75R16 in your situation. It's a very popular size for TJs and 16 inch rims. Looks very proportionate.

Here is 315/75R16 on 5.25" of lift:

Ok, so narrowing the choices down to 285/75R16 and 265/75R16.

285/75R16 - How much will adjusting the steering stops impact turning radius in what way? What potential issues might arise with sway bar disconnected?

I run 295/75r16 on the moab wheel and had to adjust the steering stops and add 1.25” spacers - really only mattered during turning at flex as I rubbed off some coating on my Antirock.

If you have stock lower CAs you may get some rub there too, but since changing mine out to Savvy’s I’ve not seen anything.

Spidertrax are often the recommended spacers. I did some cheap brand off Amazon as a temporary solution.

The steering stops being adjusted won't make any real impact at all. They barely need to be adjusted, and while you'll lose a very, very minor amount of turning radius, it will only be at full lock. So unless you do a ton of fully cranked u-tuns, you'll be fine, trust me.

No issues at all with the sway bar being disconnected. I never had any whatsoever. Though the smarter move than disconnects is definitely a Currie Antirock.

Same as above ^

With the 265s you should have no fitment issues on a 2 1/2" lift. This includes the fenders both up and in back. I have heard of the 285s needing more bumpstop limiting uptravel. If you go the 285 route I would suggest a body lift too.

Is this with the sway bar connected or disconnected or both?

Here is 285/70r16 with a 2.5 SL and 1.25 BL. It wouldn’t run this tire without that body lift.

With an anti rock I needed 1.25 wheel spacers and went with senergy.

I’d go with the 265 size

Ok, some varying requirements. I'm assuming might be wheeling terrain/ differences in each individual jeep?

285/75R16 - **Might require ** 1+ inch BL, wheel spacers. Will require adjustment to steering stops.

265/75R16 - Mount balance have fun.

@IPerkWVU - What spare tire carrier are you running? Did I just derail my own thread?

285/75R16 - **Might require ** 1+ inch BL, wheel spacers (Spidertrax/synergy). Will require adjustment to steering stops.

265/75R16 - Mount balance have fun. (0.6 inch decrease in ride height)

If you have wheel spacers you should not need to modify your steering stops. I was happy to get my full range of steering back after I added the spacers. It doesn’t make a difference on the street but did help on the trails

I bought my TJ with a 2 inch spacer and 1.25” body lift. 285/75/16. No rubbing at all, I’m guessing the stops have been adjusted. I disconnected the sway bar links and took it out once and had 0 issues rubbing.
