Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

What did you do to your TJ today?

Completed interior lights conversion to LED.
Installed new radio and speaker system.
Spent a ton of time trying to push 5.25 speaker in front until I figured that older TJ's have that bracket that needs to be cut. UGH!
Mine is `99 so no sub woofer and it really sounds like it needs one.
Looking into options for AMP and compact sub!
Sound Ordnance.

What brand and model is that? Do you have center console or just running it like that?
I was thinking about putting it under rear seat.
Sound Ordnance B-8PTD. I have the center console that had the factory sub. It fits snug. It will probably fit under the rear bench if you keep it towards the front.

Always up for passing along a good review on cheap parts for the Jeep TJ mod scene.
I hated the cheap Ebay cloth strap handles which connected to the roll cage. The biggest problem was they swing and moved around when you want to have a mounting point with no movement.
Then I saw these metal grab bars and now it's easy and stable to get in and out my rig. $20 mod totally worth it.View attachment 136259View attachment 136260View attachment 136261View attachment 136262
Yes there good for the price...I painted mine t match the Steel blue body colour.(Mine are starting to weaken and bend the metal a little on the drivers side, but what do expect for 20 bucks)

I just started replacing speakers last week. If you've got tin snips they do a butter job on those dash brackets. Cut them out like scissers on paper. My problem was I was trying to stuff 6.5's in there. I would have had to cut out some of the dash support brackets. And I wasn't about that.

Did you buy the 5.25" adapter plates from Amazon? They work wonders. I also bought the foam insulation things too. To go behind the speakers. I added polyfil to the rears. Wasn't sure how much. So I just put a couple big handfuls in. Not enough to hinder sound. But not enough to fill that entire cavity. Anyone know if that's enough?

I managed to replace the rears with Polk marine grade 5.25"s. From the stock paper speakers. Even that made a HUGE difference. I have a Kenwood head unit. But was still running stock speakers. (This is how the PO had it.) Just waiting on the 5.25" replacement speakers to arrive from Amazon.

I found a nice list of speaker wire color codes too. Those colors are crazy.

I installed the 5.25 polk marine speakers front and rear. Big difference over stock. I haven't done any poly fill.

I did not do a test to see how much the polyfil helped. But I know alot of guys on here swear by it. And have tested it. It's supposed to move the sound out of the enclosure instead of it being lost out the back of the speaker. If I understand it correctly. Honestly we had an old Christmas pillow that got a stain on it. And I just tore it open last minute, tore the stuffing out of it and stuffed it in there. Post pillows are only filled with polyfil. But it's also cheap as hell from Walmart or other craft stores.

The speakers do sound great. I can't wait to get the fronts in. I'm hard of hearing as it is. So it's nice to be able to finally hear lyrics when I'm driving down the highway.

I'm not making a statement for or against poly fill, I'm just happy my system sounds better than before.

Oh. I didn't think you were. :)

I'm curious if I used the right amount. I almost think I should have filled the cavity completely but loosely. But oh well. I'm with you. I'm sure 90% of it is the speakers. It really blew me away how crappy my speakers had been. I can't believe I was even trying to listen to them. These new ones blow them out of the water. So glad I'm swapping them out.

Where did you find the speaker wire color codes?

I was using this for rear because crutchfiels didn't sent me adapters for those since I went with 6.25 in rear and on their site that was listed "incompatible".

@moab
For brackets in front I used oscillating tool.
Just gotta be very careful when you get close to the plastic behind. :)
Did you have any problems putting the 6.25 inch speakers in the sound bar? In the front what is the bracket for that you have to cut out to put the 5.25 inch speakers in? I’m getting ready to put these size speakers in today

Axel install day on my buds new Ford 9 in rear axel housing, 2nd time. He changed the bolt pattern on the wheels and when we slid the new Currie shafts in ,one side was 2 inches longer than the one that came out. I suggested 2 inch longer bolts but he wouldn't bite. So the new ones came in yesterday hope they fit. lol Not sure why he went ford 9 inch with all of the fabrication involved especially the front axel and re calibration of the track bar location.

Today I dried my freshly painted wheels in the family room with the help of my pellet stove on full blast.

Not sure the ex-old lady would’ve been too happy with this arrangement but fuck her & the horse she rode outa here on.

Actually it was a whole buncha horses under the hood of a Mercedes, but who’s counting :LOL:
