What did you do to your TJ today?

Painted my new UCF half doors yesterday and installed them

Also, installed a JKS rear track bar and bracket. No photos of that.

So I've been working on the Jeep with my 15 yr old son. He has been doing the majority of the work. He put new rancho rs5000x shocks on the back yesterday and on the front today. I failed to check the lug nuts behind him and the picture below is what happened. Even in my moment of failure he learned an valuable lesson. I bet he will never forget this lesson. Luckily

I was driving and he was riding shotgun when this happened.

today I peeled the anti-rock stickers off the arms, finally. I can't stand stickers of any kind on my vehicles & even though I put this thing in a couple years ago for some reason I left them on; I think they didn't bother me so much as they were obscured from most angles by my old giant stupid freak bumper. When I finally nixed that thing a month or so ago I could see the stickers from just about everywhere, it didn't dawn on me at first & I just kept thinking damn, I never noticed those billboards before like this wtf... today was the day I realized what was happening & off they came, now the anti-rock just blends in to the scenery as it should in my increasingly all black TJ world

the offending signage:

OEM half doors are far and away better than any aftermarket door. They are just tricky to find, expensive, and you don’t want to scratch them up. For a trail door, the aftermarket ones are nice, but I don’t think they can replace real OEM half doors. I got lucky finding my half doors only a 4 hour round trip away.

I paid too much but found a very nice pair [just a dab of paint damage on the bottom of one door] with correct agate interior but a slightly different shade of blue. When I get Ripley painted I’ll get them done too. Put them on last week but had to take them off because of the storm.

You learn more through failure than you do from success. At least no one was hurt.

Swapped out the regular Autolite 985 plugs which had gaps running from .055-.065 with some new AutoLite APP 985 Dbl tipped platinum plugs set at .035 so maybe she'll run a lil better next time out. 🤔

But I will say that first plug boot behind the ac compressor was a royal bitch to get off,the rest had to be pulled off with channel locks(yeah I know but couldn't find my spark plug boot pullers) as they seemed super glued on. But that first one DAMN !!! 🤬

A month ago was tune up, new O2 sensors, blow out the rear cat. I'm not sure where the bump in gas mileage came from but I also changed tires to something I bet no one else is running.

I've had mostly 33s, plus the original Rubicon Goodyear MTRs, plus a short stint with 35s. I never checked mileage with the 35s, I just knew it was bad. Never cared what the factory tires delivered cuz I wanted 33s. But I've never hit 20mpg, even running down the gorge to Portland at under 60mph with 33s.

For the past month with the new skinny 7.50R16s, pulling a trailer thru the mountains and holding 60mph plus passing all the trucks on the 3 lane grades at 75mph with a 1500# trailer, I got 14mpg over 300miles. For the next 300miles I held back averaging 55mph but never over 60mph. With the trailer I got 18mpg.

This weekend was 600 miles, no trailer, average 60mph, often passing at 80mph..... I averaged 22mpg. I'm gonna say it was all due to the tires. Skinny and 40# lighter than 33x10.50R15 KO2s. The handling especially on gravel is way more confidence inspiring. The ride.... I no longer try to dodge breaks in the pavement.... and the rolling resistance is enough to catch me off guard at red lights, forcing a sudden brake application.

Anyone wanting a ride or economy boost? Get real skinny tires. The 7.50R16 is very close to the 235/85R16 which is way more common.

These were also $200 less than 33/10.50R15s... and they are rated to go 33% farther.

Next job, building 2" flares cuz the 4" flares look like pantaloons.
My TJR will soon be skinnier than an SE !! :D:D:D
