A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

They are 1.25" wheel adapters, not wheel spacers. They are the JK Moab wheels which are 17", not the 16" TJ Moab. The TJ Moab will clear the Super 16" kit without a spacer since that it what I designed it for. To be the largest brake kit that would fit inside a 16" Moab rim.

As were on this topic and I’m also going with JK Moab’s. With a SA would I need larger adapters to avoid rub? Does the mid arm provide any more clearance there? I was thinking of going 1.5” just to be sure, I’m going to be getting the same tires.

I think Obi said the backspacing was like 5.2 on them but I’ve seen other sources say it’s 6-6.25

Also, I’m guessing no issues with the Super 16 and JK moabs? That’s next on my order list :)

Lastly (and slightly off topic) what powdercoat color code/manufacturer do you use? I love the sort of semi gloss appearance to it and I read Obi saying it’s good and durable.

I was just thinking last night. That @ObiWanWebWheelr build has got to be my favorite build I've ever seen. I would have to credit that as my inspiration for my build. Every single thing on that thing looks exactly like the way I would have wanted it myself. Absolutely perfect!

I’ve sent you pictures of that LJ a lot, near enough exactly what my LJ is going to be ;)

I think I'm just going to find someone local to trade me their JK 17" Moabs for my Pintlers. Pretty sure any JK owner would do that in a heartbeat, and I won't have to spend a dime. As long as I get to keep my tires.

Don’t do that! I bought a set of perfect JK Moab’s for $100 and saw them cheaper after the fact

I'm not certain of the BS. No issues fitting that BBK with either Moab and no spacer on the 16" version. The 17" has more clearance so no issue there either.

No, the mid arm doesn't provide more clearance. Roughly about the same.

Thanks Blaine, I also edited in my powder coating question after the fact but what manufacturer/paint code do you use for that? I know Obi had good things to say about it and I like the semi gloss look.

No idea what the code is. We just order it by sheen. Unfortunately, we had to quit using that coater. The last set of rails we had done, they didn't sand blast them and the dross from the laser cut let the coating pop off on the edge after a minor bump. A phone call to them about the issue resulted in me wanting to drive down there and burn the place down. The lady on the phone asked what the problem was, I explained it, she said that we didn't specify sand blast and they have never had this problem. I said I should have to specify sand blast since they are a custom coater and they charged me the same price as they always had for sand blasted items not to mention that if you don't remove the dross, the coating won't stick. I got the "we've never had this problem before bullshit again" and then I told her to have someone call me from the shop.

She called me back and told me she talked to the shop help and they told her my helper rough handled the items when he loaded them and that is what did the damage. I explained that she was wrong on two things. I watched the chip fly off, I examined the edge, saw the dross, and understood exactly what the problem was and secondly, my helper did not load the items, your shop help did since his back is screwed up. She told me I was wrong and her help was right. Alrighty then, we're done.

Ahh that’s not good! Are my eyes correct in assuming it is semi gloss or is it another sheen for Obis items?

Yeah they’re plentiful, good quality and cheap, If you read through Obis thread it was one of the reasons stated they were picked.

Cool! Maybe the better option then is to just pick up a set of clean 17" Moabs, put them on, and sell my Pintlers. I think that would yield the best ROI.

@Chris you can get JK Moab’s anywhere and everywhere. You spent quite a bit on those pintlers. You should make some money out of it lol

Yep! Just found a set of flawless ones on Craigslist 2 miles from my house for $150 for a set of 5. They are takeoffs with only 100 miles on them!

I'll probably just do that, sell the Pintlers, and then I'll actually come out on top.

I really like the Moab look, I have to admit. The nice thing about it though is that with 17" Moabs, you have a lot more tire choices. The tire choices for 16" Moabs is slim pickings.

Seriously Chris? JK moabs? Don't do it. Those Pinters are so much better.

Tire size is different, but this is a JK Moab

If I would have kept them, I would have put a 2" adapter on. Mine rubbed my factory control arms with 10" wide tires. There isn't enough dish to them either, IMHO

This is the same jeep with Pintlers...No contest IMHO

Agree, too flat. The dish on the 16" Moabs look much better

@Chris the JK MOABs don't have that 3D look that TJ MOABs do. I think your Pintlers are a better looking wheel than JK MOABs. The only wheels I like as much or more than the TJ MOABs are the factory TJ ravines and AEV Bridgers.

But if you decided to sell yours, they'll be gone in no time like every other AEV. Don't just exchange them, you'll be losing a lot of money.

The JK style pintlers don't go quite as fast as the TJ stuff, cuz they are still available new. I wish Chris had posted this 6 months ago...I had that real nice set of JK Moabs I would have traded him straight up for! :)
