Need input on selling my TJ

Hey Guys,

I wanted some opinions on an asking price for my TJ. Selling my 2004 Jeep TJ Saharah with 149K miles. Brand new Transmission. Nothing Mecahnically wrong with the Jeep, runs smooth. Excellent Paint and Interior. What are some asking prices in your area? Appreciate the input!

You picked the worst possible time to sell also. This is a buyers market 100%.

I'd say $8000 might move it but if you really want to move it fast you may have to take less. The market on these things (just like everything else) is not good right now.

Yeah man, I'll give it a shot. Unfortunately, not a lot of comparables in New Mexico. Frame is rust free, hopefully someone will stumble upon it soon.

If I were looking for a TJ, I would want to know what axles (front and rear), what axle ratio, lockers, LSD, open diffs, and interior condition. I can't tell any of that from you picure.

If it is really clean frame wise (which I assume it is based on your location) you might want to throw it up on an auction site like ebay, cars and bids or bring a trailer. This will allow you to appeal to a larger market. There is a big market for rust free trucks, cars and Jeeps here in the North East. I bought my TJ on ebay out of California and had it shipped because it was in much better shape than anything where I live.

Marketplace is not the right audience for anything you want to try and get a decent price for, especially an "enthusiast" vehicle. Marketplace is full of people just trying to get a deal, and honestly not many people have cash floating around these days. I have a family member who buys and sells a lot of vehicles/equipment on marketplace as a side gig, and he says anything over a couple hundred bucks takes a lot of time to move these days unless it is a killer deal.

I would say that I agree with others, it's a terrible time. I would look at Facebook, not for what they go for, which you won't know, but what they're listed. Then look at Autotrader and cars.com. I'd do 2000-2006 and just to see. I looked here in Austin, TX area, and it's as low as I've seen it, maybe ever for a TJ.

A really solid looking 05 Rubicon with a lift that looked ok and a clean frame, for $8,500 and 135k miles. So you're not crazy low miles, and I'm not seeing you're a Rubicon or model with Dana 44's. You do have a hard top, but even those I'm seeing not sell for stupid dollars like they were in few years ago.

Your mileage around here looks to fit in the $7k to $8k range listing...not sure how it would sell.

Thank you all for the advice. I know I left out much of the info needed, just looking for a ballpark price. I would say it is one of the cleaner TJ's out there with a solid frame, Dana 44 rear axel, clean interior, and has been my daily driver with no problems. I bought it for $11,800 back in 2021, was hoping to make a little more since so much has gone into it.

Being your not that far from AZ Id also use CL or?? in Show Low. We lived by Q lake in NM and it took quite a while to sell my 99 and 91. I will add that thing looks absolutely cherry. The miles are right and its not rusted. You outta see some of the crap here in KY that passes for "good" . Were headed back to AZ eventually and If it was sooner Id be talkin biz with you.

What chris said. Right now, at least here up in the north east in snow country, it’s just not the best time to sell. People tend to not have a higher demand for what the typical person thinks as a summer car. I’d wait until the spring. I also recommend listing it for a price above what you expect to get for it, and negotiate down to that number.

It is however a good time to buy them, I just snagged a 2005 manual rubicon in good shape for $4500. Just proof things go for less in the colder months

I might be old but I still find this ironic. The exact opposite of how it used to be in the northeast. Jeeps used to be more expensive and in-demand in the fall and winter, cheaper in the spring when they weren't considered as useful....when they were considered utility vehicles and not occasional use recreational vehicles.

@Jtruji511 clean looking TJ, if I was in the market I'd have a look. Good luck with the sale.

In my market a clean, lightly modified Jeep like the OPs is selling around $10K. I just watched a stock low mileage (60 some thousand miles) Sahara sell for $12K via online auction.
