Does anyone have a suggestion for a overhead rack for a 2005 tj soft top? Just need to haul a lightweight kayak or occasional sheet of plywood. Also, is it normal for the back steel bumper to have hard plastic ends?

As far as a roof rack goes, most of the offerings that come up when you google "Jeep TJ Roof Rack" are intended for soft or hard top TJs. On the cheaper end, there's the Barricade (Extreme Terrain) and Smittybilt units, and if you want a real nice one, there's Garvin and Gobi. And yes, the rears did have plastic ends. Hope that helps.
No need to remove roll covers to attach. Solid attachment and looks much better than the huge exoskeleton. I think you can install a lock and key to deter thieves from removing them.
Thanks. Just don't understand how it attaches to top. Does the fabric have to be cut or modified to install hold downs?
It appears as though that it does not attach to the soft top. It attaches to the "roll" bars after you lower or remove the top.
I have seen one that attaches to the tub, front and rear, and can swing up for dealing with the up/down of the soft top.
