O2 sensor

Hello, after experiencing a backfire problem on my 2001 TJ, I removed the oxygen sensor shown in the picture and the issue was resolved. However, I was recommended to replace this sensor with an NGK/NTK O2 sensor. I am confused about which sensor is actually compatible — whether it should be an upstream or downstream sensor, and which NGK/NTK part number I need. I would appreciate your help with this

If it ran better without an O2 installed you might have a plugged cat.

I wouldn't replace an O2 sensor until I looked at live ODB data and checked to see if the voltage stayed below .9v. You can do that with a $30 Bluetooth ODB dongle and the free Torque Lite app.

If it ran better without an O2 installed you might have a plugged cat.

Or a bad 02 upstream sensor. The sensor is much cheaper and they should be replaced periodically anyway IMO.

Good evening bro.


Today I installed the new oxygen sensor, and the car definitely improved — the driving feels smoother. However, when I increase my speed a little, it still backfires occasionally.


What hasn’t improved is this: when I’m stopped in Drive, the car shakes. When I shift to Neutral, or when I start moving, the shaking stops.


Could there be another issue?

Sounds like you may've a clogged catalytic converter.

yes i tried it , it was better and i bought new o2 sensor and install it but nothing change
