Dana 35 LSD (3.07)

The Eaton Tru-Trac (912A569) is widely regarded as a great option for Dana 35's under 33's that arn't playing hard in the rocks - but near as I can tell the Tru-Trac is only offered in a 3.54 and up (numerically higher) configuration. This leaves those of us stubbornly stuck on 3.07 gears out to hang - what other options do we have?


Obligatory "Should I be on 3.07's":
The simple answer is "no" - if you are gonna spend money on lockers / LSD, you should also re-gear. That being said, I already have a ARB "RD101" 3.54 & DN front locker - so it's to late to save me. Couple the sunk cost fallacy with a desire to cruise at 80 and a burning need for more HP, the 3.07's arn't going anywhere for a while.

Now that we have that out of the way, what are your options? For helical LSD's you have:
Grip Pro GT443527
Tru-Trac (912A569)
Yukon Gear M35 YDGM35-4-27-1
all of which are 3.54 and up (that I can find) - so that leaves us with 2 options.

There was a OEM clutch based LSD called the "Trak-Loc" you can find a replacement carrier from extreme terrain or others.

Go full send and get an ARB RD103 and "super 35" axle kit

Before I go accepting either compromise - anyone know the magic PN of a 3.07 compatible Tru-Trac, or other helical LSD?

Why are you wanting to stay with 3.07 gears? Even with stock sized tires 3.07 gears SUCKED...

I get that you already have the ARB.. Could you sell it to recoup some of your funds?

I had 3.07s ONCE and bought axles from a 4 cylinder TJ with 4.10 gears for around $350 for the pair. Problem solved.

Possibly, but probably not. I like the cruise speed - the jeep spends a lot of time at hwy speed and the 1800-2K rpm at 80 is nice. at 31' tires, the 3.07's arn't bad and my plan is to just add HP with a Magnum swap, Diesel or turbo.

Well here's my opinion on this...
If you're plan or thinking about an engine swap then I wouldn't spend any money on that Dana 35. Even with a Super35 IMO it'll break under the power of a Magnum swap. So if that was the case I'd install a Dana 44 or 8.8 instead.
Then you could keep your tall gears and have an axle that has better locker options.

I'd definitely go with a Ford 8.8 swap if you're planning a Magnum swap - way stronger than a Dana 35 and tons of gear/locker options available.

Well here's my opinion on this...

1800 to 2000 Revs is FAR below the torque peak of a four or six cylinder either one. The torque peak is the most efficient engine speed. The 4 torque peak is 4000 and the six is 3200. You don’t want to cruise at torque peak, but the farther you get away from that speed the less efficient it is.

3.07’s don’t work well for any off road work beyond a nice level gravel road and not a very good road choice for anything larger than factory tire size.

A six could handle 3.07’s better than the four cylinder due to its lower torque peak engine speed.

IMO First off he has got to decide if a engine swap is in his Jeeps future. Because as pointed out already he'll need a stronger rear axle if that is his ultimate plan.

I forget what's the break on the Dana 30? is it 3.73 or ? If he's never going to run higher than 31" tires he doesn't need super low gearing....

He sounds like a great candidate for an 8.8 if a swap is in the future. TJ 44s can be kind of expensive and harder to find but definitely not impossible to find.

And yes, the 30 break is 3.73.

If he's set on keeping the ARB & not gearing it too deep then YES I agree a 8.8 might be his best bet... And if he's lucky find a 8.8 with 3.55 gears in it from the factory so now he's only regearing his front axle. Throw a TruTrac into the 8.8 (No Carrier Break) and the Dana 30 fast ARB so 3.54 gears for it & 3.55 in the 8.8...
