Hey yall, it's my first time posting here, so thanks for any input in advance!
I am currently on a mostly stock setup with what I think is a 4in suspension lift (previous owner installed and gave no info). I am currently fabing new control arms that mimic the savy mid arm kit and will be moving to 35s soon. I am trying to figure out what shocks to buy and I am confident I can fit 12in travel all around. I am not 100% sure if i want to go with coilovers or metalcloak springs and piggyback shocks. what would be the best for me? also 2in or 2.5in? should I consider outboarding? i would rather not spend more than 1500 but am prepared to do more. Thanks!

If you're already fabbing arms and going to 35s, I'd probably go with piggyback shocks over coilovers at that budget - you'll get better performance for the money and 2.5" should work well with your current lift.

Your confidence is undermined by your question.

Good luck on your project.

Help the guy out and elaborate on how a 2.5 shock will work well with his current lift. Are there other concerns with packaging that size shock body? Is a typical TJ going to have enough sprung weight to compliment that size piston?

Here's how to determine your lift height...

And if you want a 12" shock in the rear you're going to need to outboard your shocks. Tuned Fox 2.0s and Poly Performance towers will run you about $1500. You'll probably want Currie bump stops to retain the springs.

You'll also want to move your upper spring perches.

This is good. If one wants to outboard shocks. It is important to know the ride height. 🤣

Thank you that's extremely helpful!

Once you finalize the ride height with springs, then you need to figure out where the shock needs to live so that the travel bias is divided the way you want it to be. That means figuring out where the upper and lower shock mounts should go.

Great thank you so much
