The good news thread

Although I play second fiddle to grandma, grandpa-ing is pretty cool. My youngest granddaughter and I are going through whittlin' and knife sharpening now. Next up is camp cooking.

My oldest granddaughter wants a Jeep for her first vehicle. Glad I got 5 years to find one and fix it up!!!!!

My son texted me earlier this week inviting me over for dinner, more specifically he invited me to bake his favorite pizzas and bring them over :ROFLMAO: , you gotta love kids. Anyway always glad to do it, so I bake the pies yesterday & head on over. I get there & my son & daughter-in-law are hanging out, & the boy says to me I got you this mug for a Christmas present in your favorite color & thought I may as well just give it to you now, odd, but it didn't register as odd enough to raise any suspicion. Needless to say when he handed it to me & I read it I almost fell over

I was blown away, this will be my first grandchild, due in July 2026, I haven't felt that unique shock & joy since 1995 when my then fiancé delivered that same news about our first, then again in 96 with our second. And this is especially great timing for my aging parents who will learn this news today at Thanksgiving dinner, pop will be 90 next year and 'when am I getting a great grandbaby' is always the first (third, seventh & twelfth) question out of his mouth every time we gather.

Anyway we went on to enjoy the Sicilian pies, they tasted better than ever, first up is the caramelized onion & goat cheese, the boy's absolute favorite

and the Italian sausage with green pepper

I've been sworn to secrecy as they still have a list of people they want to tell before it becomes public information, but I figured the old TJ forum was safe & I had to tell someone :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Congratulations, brother! You'll find that there's nothing quite like being a grandpa!!!

One of many required grandfatherly duties is "Pull my finger". You'll be able to pull(pun intended)it off for a while while they're small. Other duties include piggy back rides and fixing broken toys. Later, bad influence comes into play, but that's a personal preference.

Watching my kids have a relationship with “Pop”, their great grand father is truly one my
most special moments as a parent.

Enjoy it and congratulations

thanks, and as a special added bonus, my ex-wife and her husband are retiring to the beach which is +/- 2hrs away & the other set of grandparents live in Florida, which leaves me (10 minutes from my son) as the biggest grandparental influence on the grandbabies - I get to unleash another generation unto the planet with my particular set of attitudes & skills :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Congratulations Grandpa.

Could change your handle to Grandpa Willy

that has a nice ring to it

We got to sit through one of Owens' intramural basketball games this week. 48 minutes of pain, watching the kids' team lose 41-8. And they weren't even up against the best team. B-ball does not appear to be Owens' long suit. That said, he was the only kid on his team playing his zone. The others were chasing the ball. As I said, it was painful. They go up against the best team tomorrow.
In other Owen news, hockey went better. His bottom of the barrel hockey team is beginning to gel. Finally. They were in a 3 on 3 tournament last weekend and cleaned house. Owen scored three hat tricks.
And speaking of hockey, we spent Turkey Week at our oldest kids' place in Maine. It's a hike from Illannoy. We drove out there via the Indiana and Ohio Turnpikes, I90, I86, I88, VT, NH, I95, US1. We came back via Canada. I much prefer that route. 150 miles shorter.
Back to hockey. We spent Saturday night in Whitby, ONT and, besides the Leafs and Penguin's game, there were some youth tournaments going on. The Holiday Inn was full of hockey players. Had a good time yakking with the kids and talking trash with the NFL fans.
As we crossed back into the states, the border guy asked what we did in Canada. I said, "Ate, slept, saved thirty bucks in tolls, no holiday traffic, bought one tank of diesel, and insulted Maple Leaf fans." Border guy says, "That's gotta be the most honest itinerary I've heard all day. I insult the Leaf's, too. Welcome back."

All that time I saved while driving through Canuckistan got eaten up driving through the Mitten of Michigan and a snow storm.

Can totally relate. Kids went to parochial grade school. I and another dad coached boys basketball, baseball and girls basketball.
As you can imagine girls were worse.

These are co-ed teams and these girls are kicking butt. 6 of the points on Owens team were by two of the four girls on his team. The other teams' top scorer was also a girl. She couldn't dribble to save her life but she could shoot and rebound.
Owen can dribble, guard, and block shots but cannot hit the backboard. Most of the other boys on his team can't dribble without watching the ball while doing it. Or they bounce the ball off their foot and lose it to the other team.

One thing O is not is a sore loser. He's always encouraging his teammates and always walks off the court or the ice with a smile. Usually he says, "Whelp, lost again." 🤷‍♂️

Good for Owen!

I have always been a sore loser, coach would make me run laps when our team lost cause I wouldn't shake hands with the other team.............

I told him one time, I'm not shaking hands and you sure don't want me to talk to them.

Owens bucket ball season ended on Friday with another loss. The Pickled Prairie Dogs are not in the playoffs. O is okay with that. More time for skating. He lost 4-2 in a good hockey game last night then tied 2-2 in a scrimmage this morning against a Coven of Witches, aka, an all girls team. The girls were really good.

Eli has started indoor soccer. Last Sunday was the first ever time playing on Astro turf and it showed. E got a yellow card for knocking a kid on his ass. E then got a red card for looking the ref in the eye and telling him that he would keep knocking them down until you start calling them for trying to trip us up. E is 12 and fast approaching 6 feet. He looks me in the forehead. He has another match tonight.
