How Stellantis Destroyed Jeep (YouTube Video)

His knowledge, acumen, and products were never in question - and still aren't.

Then your reading comprehension is. Go re-read the thread without bias.

So you facepalm (Ie express disappointment/frustration/exasperation or whatever else) on his reply to someone who thought he was being cranky when he wasn't. You facepalm to his reply explaining that the only thing he was tired of was people jumping on bandwagons ("OMG 5000 dollars for fixing a short!") they shouldn't be without fully realizing that not everyone is motivated by money and not everyone out there is to pull a fast one on someone ... but rather they want to get the right compensation for their work/effort/skill/experience as agreed upon and fixing the bloody problem that others didn't/couldn't.

And when he calls you out on your action, you decide to react like you did? You aren't done with him, likely he is done with you.

So - are we all reacting to emoticons like 16 year old girls on facebook now? Somehow, I just don't care.

Looking at sales data, Stellantis bought a distressed Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep when they got them in 2021. Dodge and Chrysler sales dropping way more than Jeep.

Wrangler sales were as bad in 2023 as they were back when the TJ was the flagship Wrangler. Adjusted for inflation a TJ Unlimited Rubicon MSRP of $29,125 in today's dollars would cost ~$46,923. A current Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is listed at ~$53,450. So not that much of a difference in terms of relative cost given all the new tech stuffed in them.

Dang it, that Cloudfare issue done pissed folks off........:oops:😂

Wasn't that a FINE mess? My site went offline as well. I could still FTP to it, because I was uploading an update to my smartphone rant as coincidence would have it. But FTP bypasses Cloudflare, the web page itself was intermittently unavailable for several hours.

Don't you just love knowing that most of the internet is dependent on a single point of failure with no redundancy.

That's OK - most people have a certain single point failure in their pocket. If it dies, goes flat, gets dropped, or is stolen; they're up the proverbial creek without the proverbial paddle!

I never knew TJ's were that expensive. I would never pay 30k for a stock TJ, even if it was brand new.

I wonder how much Jeep could strip out of a new Wrangler lineup to reduce costs and increase sales. Airbags, backup cameras, road sensors, and emissions technology are now required. I think lane, turn, and collision assist will be required in the future. Nobody today would buy a car without apple/android play, power and heated seats, power windows/locks, etc.

All those are complexities that create points of failure and add $10-15,000 to the price of a vehicle.

All those are complexities that create points of failure and add $10-15,000 to the price of a vehicle.

And in order to get the price of the vehicle down to an acceptable level for which people would consider purchasing they need to make large compromises on the quality and sourcing of drivetrain components.

The vast majority of folks want a disposable car. 100k no service and throw it away and get another.

We can moan all we want about the state of the industry but as long as the money votes in a completely different direction then we're going to continue to get vehicles that prioritize cup holder placement over transmission longevity. Because that's what sells.

Stellantis is in trouble because the vast majority of consumers don't want Jeeps.

The JK was popular because it was a small SUV and you could put a kid in a rear seat carrier without bending over.

Now you've got crossover SUVs that do the same thing, better cup holders, gas mileage and price.

Unless you have another Clueless movie that makes consumers fall in love all over again their isn't enough Jeep enthusiasts to save the brand.
