The good news thread

Thanks, I never caught on to Spanish cuss words.

I have to laugh, because when I was sixteen, I worked at a farm cutting cauliflower with a largely Hispanic group. While the other white boys were learning how to cuss in Spanish, I had the Mexican ladies teaching me how to say "I love you. I need you. I want you." Let's just say that I was their favorite. :sneaky:

I've been fortunate also to work with some great Mexican guys. I could just never pick up any of the slang or language.

My new City job looks like it's going to be a walk in the park. There's a Mexican man from L.A. who's a little younger than me who's training me with working with the citizens who come in to dump their yard waste. He and his wife owned a UTV four door in LA and now he wants to look into buying a TJ. I took him for a ride around our local mountain today so he could get a feel for a slower pace. He's interested in a Unlimited.

Holy moly the government pays LJ salaries out there??

I'm tri-lingual in that respect. Besides Spanish, I have quite the vocab in French, too, due to almost 30 years working for a French company. When the French Overlords heard a Yank going off in their native language, they knew it was time to hide. There's a tiny bit of Polish, too, but it's been decades since I needed it.

During my time at the French company, I probably spent a year each in Mexico and Puerto Rico. I made great friends in both places, ate some of the best food,(though I really do not like Pata), and got shitfaced on good rum and tequila. I flew into Cancun and stayed at the Cancun Airport Hilton Garden Inn so often that I was on a first name basis with the staff.

Ok , what's Pata ? Looks like it can be many things . Thanks !

Owen's intramural soccer season ended yesterday in a tournament for third place out of four teams. Although Owen was one of his team's top scorers for the season, they were the fourth place team. The kid can't catch a break. On the plus side, win or lose, he's happy just to be playing. He scored his team's only goal in the first minute. It went down hill from there, with them losing 8-1. O was still smiling when he came off the field.

One drawback for me with these late autumn soccer games is that I lost 40 lbs this year and most of that was cold weather insulation. Jebus, I was cold yesterday. Eli's indoor games start next month, so no shivering there and I know what to dress for with Owen's hockey games.

Though Owen can't seem to find a winning team to play on, the kid has great luck. His name was drawn from a hat to represent his team on ice at the Allstate Areana for the Chicago Wolves(USHL)game last Saturday between periods. Most of his team showed up to the game to watch.

Owen in his hockey blazer that grandma made him.

Owen, in the orange and black, at the faceoff. As you can see, the puck went between his legs.

And the kid just skating around. That's what it looks like. He's one of the few kids that actually plays his zone.

Just to give you an idea of the size of the Allstate Arena and the big guys warming up.

The place used to be known as the Rosemont Horizon. The roof collapsed during construction almost 50 years ago. My neighbor at the time worked there and had just stepped out of the building to get a cup of coffee when it came down. That really messed him up.

My wife and I are on our way to Komiefonia to visit 2 new great grand babies. We are visiting a old friend in the Fort Mohave area now and leaving tomorrow for Sacramento and then the Santa Rosa area. we left Saturday morning. Today the puppies and I went exploring and found a gravel leeve to walk them next to the Colorado River.

My son texted me earlier this week inviting me over for dinner, more specifically he invited me to bake his favorite pizzas and bring them over :ROFLMAO: , you gotta love kids. Anyway always glad to do it, so I bake the pies yesterday & head on over. I get there & my son & daughter-in-law are hanging out, & the boy says to me I got you this mug for a Christmas present in your favorite color & thought I may as well just give it to you now, odd, but it didn't register as odd enough to raise any suspicion. Needless to say when he handed it to me & I read it I almost fell over

I was blown away, this will be my first grandchild, due in July 2026, I haven't felt that unique shock & joy since 1995 when my then fiancé delivered that same news about our first, then again in 96 with our second. And this is especially great timing for my aging parents who will learn this news today at Thanksgiving dinner, pop will be 90 next year and 'when am I getting a great grandbaby' is always the first (third, seventh & twelfth) question out of his mouth every time we gather.

Anyway we went on to enjoy the Sicilian pies, they tasted better than ever, first up is the caramelized onion & goat cheese, the boy's absolute favorite

I've been sworn to secrecy as they still have a list of people they want to tell before it becomes public information, but I figured the old TJ forum was safe & I had to tell someone :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
