My Jeep project continues this weekend which, of course, has led to more questions. The rig is a 1998 TJ, manual tranny, 4.0. So far I've installed new JKS springs (2" springs that netted ~2.5") and a Savvy 1.25" body lift, with 33x10.50 tires (it's turning out really nice - love the look!). I have the JKS 1" MML sitting here ready for install but now, after reading some of the pit falls that may accompany that I'm questioning how to proceed. Specifically, I've read some folks have had issues with shifting the manual tranny, and shifting the transfer case in to 4H & 4L.

So, I'm hoping for some insight before choosing how to proceed

My options as I understand them:

1) Drive as is to evaluate vibes before installing the MML. Will require dropping the fan shroud 1" OR installing the radiator relocation bracket.
2) Install MML now, without testing. This negates the need to mess with the fan shroud or the radiator bracket, but sounds like it may result in other issues.

So, my ultimate question to you guys, is what issues might I run into with options #1 & option #2? How would you proceed?

I'd install the MML and go from there.

The MML of anything will get rid of vibrations. You may or may not have shifting issues (that's where a transfer case cable shifter will help) but I would assess that later.

I just dropped the fan shroud 1" when I installed my MML, it was easy.

You may or may not have an issue. I didn’t, but you can usually slide the center console back an inch and/or before that replace the OE thick accordion boot with thin pleather to get more clearance in 2/4/R

Thanks, everyone, for the input. Sounds like the MML is going in & then we’ll address any problems that may arise.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like the Savvy and the Novak cable shifters get the nod… any reason to choose one over the other? Or, is there a better option out there?

I've been very happy with my Savvy cable.

This is exactly the build I am contemplating for my Apex, except I am planning on 33x12.5 tires. What rear axle and gears do you currently have? I have the 32rh auto with the dana 35 which I believe is the shortest drivetrain (longest driveshaft) combo there is, so i'm hoping I can go up about 2" and not hit any vibes.

Please update whether or not you have any vibe issues with and without the MML.

What am I missing? I thought that when you installed a 1" body lift and a 1" MML, there are no shroud/radiator modifications necessary?

Make sure your m-m,s are new or in good shape, that with the jks will do great,I would get a t case cable (well worth) and also a m.o.r.e. Steering shaft riser.the fan shroud is no big deal to raise.

I currently have the Dana 35 with 3.07 gears, but that'll change in a couple weeks when I have the 'super 35' treatment done with 4.56 gears. Last night, I drove the rig for the first time since installing the 33's and it definitely needs the gear change. 4th gear was weak, and I couldn't maintain speed in 5th.

Shifting into 2nd, 4th, and reverse was doable, but not the best, so I'll probably move the console back a little to fix that. I also ordered the Savvy cable shifter, but I didn't even attempt to put it in 4wd last night.
