Always glad to help out. I’m not going to say who…. but a friend just called and asked if I would loan her $1300 to help pay her rent. Those who know me, know that I’m always willing to help out friends & family. I told her to give me some time to think about it and I would call her back. Before I called her back, her brother called to let me know that she was lying and not to give her the money !! He went on to say that the real reason she wanted the $1300 was to get her boyfriend out of jail so she could be under the same roof as him for his birthday
I thought about it for a minute and decided to give her the money anyway because we all need help at times.
A couple of hours later I get a call from the police station. It was her - crying, screaming and asking why I gave her counterfeit money
My response…. so you and your boyfriend could be under the same roof for his birthday! Ha!

Unfortunately there are people like that out there in our world.

Yup. I had an ex girlfriend tried to hit me up for money for an abortion after we broke up. I asked her to let me talk to the doctor. She said he's too busy, that I shouldn't call...

Do you have his phone number? Nope.

What's his last name? I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Uh huh...

I'm poker player, so often people are asking to borrow money. Good rule of thumb is to start low, see if they pay it back. I always tell them that I shouldn't have to bug them to get my money back and it should be paid before the agreed time. Their credit line can increase if those conditions are met. Otherwise, no more loans.

I have made small ($100) to mid ($500) loans to various folks over the years who I absolutely knew would never pay me back and also knew they didn't have the balls to ever contact me again until they had me paid back. Cheap price to never hear from that group of folks again. I will however vouch for you to anyone that asks and let them know you have paid back every penny ever borrowed without being bothered about it a single time and some of those were not insubstantial amounts.

Yes, you learn a lot about someone by loaning them money. There was a scene in Bronx Tale where the kid is chasing someone down for a small amount of money. The mob boss tells him he learned a cheap lesson about that person and a small price to pay to never have to see him again.

I have always been trust worthy with money. Part of that could be that when I was 20, I rented a 4 bedroom house with 3 deadbeat roommates (mostly friends). I was the only responsible person there. Lost one friend because he was taking money to pay the utilities. Until the power got shut off...

Moved out of there and rented a room with a friend of a friend. He told me pretty early that I was his favorite roommate because he never had to ask me for rent. I guess many are confused by the calendar.

I once loaned my in-laws $1000. What a mistake that was. Never paid me back and have the audacity when they're around me to act and behave as if it never happened.

Sounds like a good reason to not let the in laws into your house. :p

That was the beginning of our not getting along (13 years ago).

They've on occasion asked to borrow money since and I always remind them that I don't loan money to people who don't pay me back. I chalk it up to a lesson learned.

I absolutely love this movie and love this part. I was going to reference it when I saw you already did! Nice work!

My Wife says I dress like a Homeless Person. My response is that no one asks me for money.

It's like when I see a homeless person on the corner, if they are wearing nice, new expensive shoes. No money from me.
