I am looking to replace the Bestop Instatrunk with the Tuffy Tailgate Security Enclosure.

For those that have or had the Tuffy product installed in an earlier TJ, are you able to reach the rear sear tumble release lever at the bottom left of the seat once the security enclosure is installed?

The Bestop InstaTrunk is notched at the corner so you can reach down to release and tumble the seat, or will I need to rig some kind of release extension?

I don't have the answer yet, as I ordered the Tuffy a few days ago and it is still in transit, but from what I have seen it is very difficult to reach the handle in the earlier TJs. I am planning to do what others have done, which is to drill a hole in the lever and run a wire (or Paracord) loop to be able to release it from above.

You can reach it yes, It's a much tighter fit than the Bestop Instatrunk was. But you can still open the seat and tilt if forward if needed. The back seat frame does rub/scrape the enclosure slightly when I put the seat back in place. I have the 98 TJ not sure if the 03-06 back seats would be different in how they open.

That was my plan as well...

hmmm... that could problematic. I have the Bartact seat covers and they add quite a bit of bulk to the seats..

Time will tell.

I did swap the Bestop for the Tuffy. The extra space, though minimal, is noticeable so I deem a good conversion.

The rear seat release is REALLY hard to reach so I did as described above... drilled a hole in the tab on the release lever and tied a length of dyneema cordage between the lever and one of the loops on the molle panel. Works well enough.

The seat frame does rub on the back of the Tuffy box making it a bit more difficult to raise and lower but by no means is it show stopper.

I added a molle grid to inside back of the enclosure and reinstalled the LED light in the enclosure.
