I really want a TIG capable welder for stainless exhaust and aluminum from thin to thick.

I was looking at Everlast...Powertig 210EXT... it's $1500. https://www.everlastgenerators.com/product/tig-stick/powertig-210ext

This one doesn't do AC... probably has points that need cleaning...but it's really cheap...

Thoughts?

Not to discourage you from wanting a reason for a new tool, but the handful of exhaust work I have done so far is fine with MIG. I wouldn't mind some AL ability in my garage though since the corners of my gas tank skid have cracked. TIG welding is tough!

This post might be too late for you, Mac, but you really want AC if you plan to weld aluminum. You can weld thick aluminum with DC, but welding thin aluminum requires AC. The electrode positive portion of the AC waveform cleans off the oxides that form in the weld pool. That formation of oxides and the cleaning effects of the AC are keys to TIG welding aluminum well. My TIG welder is a square wave welder, and it allows me to adjust the cleaning portion of the waveform. A couple years ago, I had to weld a cast aluminum differential that was cracked, so I maxed out the electrode positive to keep the weld clean, which was really important with cast aluminum.

Not too late. I'm holding out for a better ac dc rig.

I had my Miller multimatic 220,It was a Dc/Ac machine and I loved it....ALOT
But eventually It got stolen a bit ago....and my small snap on box I saved up for so long since I was like 14 (I knew what I wanted at the time)

An Everlast welder is in my view though,I'm gonna need an Ac rig too!

Still saving!

Fabbed this up the last couple of days...wish I could make the frame out of aluminum.

Plan is to run this 80 lb behemoth on a high line to hoist RV parts up a steep embankment.

This is a mostly zero dollar build using steel salvaged from RVs, a battery I replaced in a neighbor's truck from 2017... won't start a Cummins but it'll run a 3500 lb winch. And probably zero safety too!
