TJ seemed really slow when I was test driving it

I just checked the vin it just says jeep wrangler even on the model would it say rubicon on the model? Or rubicon i thought it would say wrangler

A true Rubicon has the number 6 in the sixth position of the VIN #.

With stock 4.10 gears and stock size tires with the 42rle auto transmission it will be a little sluggish. It doesn’t sound like anything wrong per se, but it should be able to get up to 80+mph. Although it will be much slower getting there once you get past 60mph. It’s the stupid 0.69 overdrive ratio on the 42rle transmission. Try turning the OD off so it will stay in 3rd longer. Then turn it back on about 70mph to let it go into OD (4th). These TJ’s are not speed devils for sure. These engines love turning at 3000rpm, a bit higher than most other cars, so don’t fear that.

Edit: that’s not stock. It’s likely running on stock gear ratio. Regear it to 5.38 and should be good to go!

What isnt stock? I thought I had to turn it on?
 
I used key words plus your location to find that rig. Your in tx, mentioned 04rubicon with 88k for 13 thousand at a dealership. Was this not the one you referring to.

To answer your question, with a question that hopefully answers your question. Why would a vehicle come from the factory with a switch, for stock drivetrain, if they never intended you needing this switch?

Oh ok so answering your question with another question so what your basically telling me you have to have that switch on all the time while driving on the road above 40 or 50

If they like 3000 rpm, then drive by that and not MPH. Turn the OD off until you get on the highway and only when the RPM is past 3000 do you let it get into OD.
 

I think the other posted was a nicer place to start, but this isn't unworkable (for the right person). On the other hand, if you're not mechanically inclined you're either about to be or you'll experience the meaning of JEEP. Just Empty Every Pocket. You need to have this pre-purchase inspected by a knowledgable jeep mechanic.

It looks like it has a Rubicon Express long arm lift kit. A bit hard to say for sure at this resolution but I think I see their logo on the shock and they painted everything that gray. These had to be welded to the frame and you'd really want to be sure those welds were good at this age. The bushings in the joints were prone to creaking and wear. You can't go back to stock ride height.

I'm sure those are much bigger tires than stock and were not regeared. The tires are pretty worn and with such low mileage are also probably aged out and need replacement. That's also a weird rim size and not great for offroad, so you might look for some Moab style rims in 16in and be better off and probably cheaper.

It doesn't seem like they went really cheap building this, so the flat fender kit might be a nice one installed properly. Might be junk.

This is a case where the mods are actually reducing the value IMO.

Na i want something I built i just don't wanna get bent over on a dud especially since car salesman think they can get 1 over on you. I was just asking around since ive never been in one. But now that im asking actual jeep owners that have no financial gain from this sale I can trust it.

I think some people are confusing the one with posted pics, Genright fenders, a lift, and bigger tires with the one you are actually looking to buy. You might go look at that one though.

Yea im getting confused too ha so the snorkel jeep wrangler had 35s on it?

TX, 04, Rubicon, 88k miles, dealership, 13k. Search yielded a clean snorkel rig.

Your posted screenshot of rig looks to be the one you are ACTUALLY looking at buying.

Consensus appears to approve of snorkel rig, over the later.

If you know jack about vehicles, I’d go for a civic, with no confusing switches (od off) to worry about. I would definately not entertain the rig you posted unless you’re prepared to be wrenching on it more weekends, than not.
